Why should one care if ''God'' exists?

I don't think anyone cares. It doesn't matter.

But inquiring minds want to know. I want to know. I think Znr does too.

I'd be interested to know so I can understand what made you give up your faith which you held so deeply before. I'd be interested to know what made you give that up.

I will, then. Ok. Tomorrow, when I have some time. I just hope I'm not judged after I do so.

Jk!
It's not an exciting story. But I'll share tomorrow.

The one thing I've learned through it all is that as a Christian, I greatly misunderstood atheism.

What did you understand atheism to be when you were Christian?

That atheists were on average vocal about being against religion, unhappy and cynical. Of course, some are this way, but overall, I view atheism as freeing and not at all interested in taking religious people away from religion. It's just interested in logic, reason and truth. :)

Sounds good. Of course, I have to have a follow-up question. What if the truth leads you to see that God is real?

And for some reason, I do believe you. :) lol

I'll start with that for me, I always doubted that heaven and hell exist. All through my Christian days, I really didn't believe in that. I think that chronic disbelief, even though I believed in "most" everything else, caused me to look deeper at the validity of the Bible. I read about Darwin's life story going from a Christian to not believing. I believe he died an agnostic but that is speculation.

I came to the realization that I no longer believed in the truth of the Bible. For me, that was what ultimately caused me to stop going to church and then everything else slowly but surely, fell away. My belief in Jesus being the Savior, was the hardest part for me to let go. And prayer. Even after all this time, I still miss prayer life. But when you determine that the Bible isn't true, you just can't go on as you once were.

It wasn't that I didn't want to believe, but rather I just couldn't. (Knowing what I now know)

So there was no crisis of faith or monumental moment that caused me to doubt. My doubts had been mounting for a while.

Faith is the belief of things unseen. But it isn't enough to have faith when you know that what you're resting your faith on isn't remotely true. This is just view at this point. There's a lot more to it but that is the gist. Thanks for listening. :)

Never. No judgement. Again I'm sorry about earlier. After you called me out I realized that what's bothering me has nothing to do with CF. I was projecting and being unreasonable. I do want to listen to your story.

I will, then. Ok. Tomorrow, when I have some time. I just hope I'm not judged after I do so.

Then that will be a good thing, indeed. :)
I don't believe any of us truly know, either way, with certainty, what if anything, lies beyond this life. But for now, there's no viable proof in my eyes that anything does. ("Higher Power" I mean)

Aw, no worries. It takes a kind person to say this so thank you. ((Hug))

I don't have a track record for taking shots at atheists. But lately some of these threads are testing my patience. The same goes for some of the threads here posted by believers. I think at this point it's safe to say I'm lacking patience and grace.

I would advise you stay away from the Creation vs Evolution debate area, because if this tests your patience, that area will break it.

Why does an atheist wish to discuss god on a religion forum>>???

Is it like trolling?

I mean what this does is it dilutes the ability of Christians to connect with other Christians
as the pagans atheists and so on crowd the board ...

Is this the objective?

Christ is the genetic father of the Anglo [angel] peoples.
That makes Christ the spiritual and genetic father of these people.
Other tribes have other gods.

We who are the offspring of Christ love our father and mother for the gift we have been given by pleasing their vision of our happiness as well as incorporating our own added insight

There is only 1 atheist I know of on here who comes to be disrespectful, and he gets removed constantly only to of course make a new account later.

Why can't atheists be interested in discussing religion civilly? I personally find religions interesting and have been trying to be a believer for a long time.

''woman?'' ^_^

I know you think that atheists hold up themselves as gods of sorts. Like I decide what is good and true. But, you'd be wrong to think that, Jeremy. The truth is, that what is good and right is how we view humanity. What is good and right in terms of how to benefit others, how to use our lives in services to others, etc.

Is this merely a religious tenet? Atheists can live meaningful, productive and compassionate lives in service to others, yanno. :)

I know your story prior to you coming to Christianity. But, your story is your own. Not every atheist thinks that because there may be no god, this is license to pursue mayhem. lol Just food for thought. Open thy mind. lol

You are a woman. That is why I referred to you as a woman.

Secondly, you said what I said. What is Good and productive in your view is determined by what humans say. So if a person thinks being good and living a productive life can be done without believing in God, then they do not see belief in God as necessary for being good and productive.

When you respond to a male poster, do you begin with; "Man"?

So, do you believe that you need to believe in a god in order to do good in this world? If so, that is your choice, but theists and atheists have much in common in terms of wanting to live valuable, productive lives helping others. Theism didn't invent altruism. :)

I'm not sure "altruism" exist, theistic or atheistic. Early Greek theories of altruism all boil down to "enlightened self-interest," and the same can be argued for all theistic concepts as well.

It can also be argued that altruism is a byproduct from or in direct correlation with evolution. If we look at other animal species, they all exhibit altruism. Well, maybe with the exception of the black widow spider. lol

It isn't only a human trait, to look out for the good of the whole, the best for others, sacrificing ourselves. It's an evolutionary trait, perhaps?
