These, and other passages, are commonly misunderstood as teaching loss of salvation.Hebrews 10:26-27
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
If that were true, then what Jesus taught in John 5:24 and 10:28 CANNOT be true.Your response here shows you did not read the OP answers that were provided on page 1 but not written directly in the OP that show from the scriptures alone that salvation can be lost if we choose to depart the faith and no longer believe and follow what Gods' Word says.
Eternal life is possessed the moment one believes in Christ for salvation. And, from that moment, the recipient shall never perish.
If that were true, then what Jesus taught in John 5:24 and 10:28 CANNOT be true.
No 2 ways about it. Jesus was clear: recipients of eternal life, which occurs at the moment of faith in Him, shall never perish.
So, because of what Jesus said, the OP is confused about a number of passages. They CANNOT teach what is being claimed.
Eternal life is possessed the moment one believes in Christ for salvation. And, from that moment, the recipient shall never perish.
Don't you see that IF lifestyle can result in loss of salvation, then salvation is by lifestyle, not faith.

The OP here bases loss of salvation on one's lifestyle. Not Scripture. There are no verses that warn that lifestyle can result in loss of salvation.
These, and other passages, are commonly misunderstood as teaching loss of salvation.
But, did you read all of my post? What did you do with what Jesus taught in John 5:24 and 10:28?
How can salvation be lost given what Jesus said in those verses? Please explain.
Amen!God's Word is always true.
That has not been shown earlier. As I have shown, Jesus said that recipients of eternal life shall never perish. There is no other way to understand His words than once given eternal life, the recipient CANNOT perish. It is your understanding of it as applied in this post that is not true as shown earlier
Sorry, but that is not necessary. Given what I showed that Jesus said about recipients of eternal life, it is clear that the verses quoted in those posts are being misunderstood.
If lifestyle determines one's salvation, then salvation is NOT by grace at all. It is by works. The Bible does not teach that. Our salvation is conditional on believing and following what God's Word says as shown from the scriptures in post # 7 linked because whatsoever is not of faith is sin *Romans 14:23. As shown in the scriptures in the linked post that disagrees with you if someone chooses to depart the faith in order to continue in sin they are no longer a believer but an unbeliever so the scriptures you have posted are not relevant to your claims.
Take Care.
That's clearly not what Jesus said about those who believe. There's not misunderstanding. God was speaking to the membership of the churches in Corinth and Jerusalem. He wasn't speaking to an unbeliever but rather those who claim to have a faith in Christ but still continue in sin without turning away from it.
Those who claim to believe in and claim to have faith in Christ, as stated in the two verses you mention, but continue to willfully commit sin do not have faith at all.
Do you believe salvation can be lost? There's not misunderstanding. God was speaking to the membership of the churches in Corinth and Jerusalem. He wasn't speaking to an unbeliever but rather those who claim to have a faith in Christ but still continue in sin without turning away from it.

Please consider Romans 11:6 - And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
So, how can a recipient of eternal life end up perishing, when Jesus said they shall never perish? In the case of one who continues to live their life in sin after claiming to have faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, it can either be lost or they never truly had it to begin with.
This is a distraction from the truth. The question is actually bogus. And irrelevant. Here's a simply question that might help the discussion FG2. If someone who chooses to reject God's Word and depart the faith in order to continue in known unrepentant sin, are they in that moment a believer or and unbeliever?
Seriously? Every verse I've shared here is totally relevant. It is God's inerrent Word. Now if you answer this question honestly, how is any scripture you have provided in the discussion relevant?
Both John 3:18 abd 2 Thess 2:12 refute your claim. They are not because those who depart the faith are no longer believers but by departing the faith have now become unbelievers.
Sorry to have to refute your claims here, but you are simply not believing what Jesus said. Now look at the scriptures you provided now and earlier. You posted John 5:24 which says [24], Truly, truly, I say to you, He that hears my word, and believes (G4100 πιστεύων V-PPA-NMS = believing) on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life. Now go look up the believes (G4100 πιστεύων V-PPA-NMS = believing) it is a verb that is present participle active and means present tense active to "believing" so the scripture says "he that hears my words and is believing on him that sent me has everlasting life. If some one has departed the faith they are no longer believing but are unbelieving and the scripture is fulfilled in John 3:36 which uses the same Greek word application as John 5:24. Have a look at John 3:36 [36], He that believes believes (G4100 πιστεύων V-PPA-NMS = believing) on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God stays on him. Now let's look at your other scripture; John 10:26-28 says [26], But you believe (G4100 πιστεύων V-PIA-2P believing) not, because you are not of my sheep, as I said to you. [27], My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: [28], And I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Nope. v.26 is NOT a condition for becoming a sheep of Jesus. There are no words that would lead to such a conclusion. One becomes a sheep of Jesus via Jn 5:24 and believing in Him. And such who do possess eternal life and shall never perish, just as Jesus said.Note here who are God's sheep and who are not God's sheep? Those who believe not and do not follow what God's Word says are not God's sheep *John 10:26.
You woefully misunderstand John 5:24. Those who believe possess eternal life. The very moment they believe. So Jesus gives them eternal life WHEN they believe. That is perfectly clear from John 5:24. Please believe the Bible and Jesus. While we are told in John 10:27 God's sheep hear His voice (the Word of God) and they follow it and in John 10:28 it is those who believe (believing) God gives eternal life not those who depart the faith to become "unbelieving".
you've thrown in a whole lot of verses, but seem to not understand any of them, in light of what Jesus said. Now let's get something clear before continuing. According to the scriptures, we are saved by grace through faith and not of ourselves it is a gift of God and not of works lest any man should boast *Ephesians 2:8-9. Obedience to God's law is not how we are saved because all of us have already broken the law and are under it's penalty of condemnation and death *Romans 3:9-23; 2 Corinthians 3:3-11. So it is by God's grace through faith that we are saved through Gods forgiveness of our sins. According to the scriptures, obedience to Gods' law therefore is the fruit of genuine faith of one that is already been given Gods promise of salvation and the fruit of God's work in us *Philippians 2:13 as we believe and follow his word *John 10:26-27. If our faith has no fruit it is dead *James 2:18-20; 26 and our tree will be cast down and thrown into the fire *Matthew 3:10; 7:19-20; 13:49-50; Hebrews 10:26-27. Therefore we do not abolish God's law through faith like some people teach but God's law is established in the heart by faith that works by love *Romans 3:31; 1 John 5:3-4; Romans 13:8-10. According to the scriptures, sin (breaking God' commandments and not believing and following God's Word) is the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil *1 John 3:6-10; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 14:12; Revelation 22:14. Therefore says Jesus you shall know them (who is from God and who is not) by their fruit. *Matthew 7:16-20; John 15:1-6; 1 John 2:3-4. According to the scriptures no one receives God's Grace if they do not believe and follow what God's Word says (see John 3:16-21; Hebrews 10:26-31). As posted earlier God's sheep hear His voice (the Word) and follow it.
I disagree with every verse that you think supports your claim that salvation can be lost. Now can you tell me what it is that has been posted in the scriptures here that you disagree with and why you disagree?
Take Care dear friend.
So, how can a recipient of eternal life end up perishing, when Jesus said they shall never perish?
This doesn't answer my question:If they continue to willfully sin after claiming faith in Christ, they have either walked away or never had it to begin with.
This doesn't answer my question:

A person who has believed in Christ and at some point continues to willfully sin is a disobedient child. Aren't you familiar with that idea?
God's plan isn't to disinherit such a child, but to discipline them, which will be painful. Heb 12:11
If they continue to willfully sin after claiming faith in Christ, they have either walked away or never had it to begin with.
OK, so it seems you can't answer my question.
You must first distinguish between counterfeit faith (Matthew 7:21-23) and genuine faith.WHY OUR SALVATION CAN BE LOST
Greetings with much love to all my fellow Christians in the Lord Jesus. I thought I would post this as I wanted to show the multitude of scripture that proves that our salvation is conditional on believing and following what Gods' Word says and that our salvation can be lost if we choose to depart the faith (the truth of Word of God) and no longer believe and follow what Gods' Word says and return to a life of known unrepentant sin. I posted some of the scriptures in another thread but they are lost somewhere in that thread which is grown quite large now. So I am posting those scriptures and more not previously posted if anyone may want to see what the bible says about losing salvation.
QUESTIONS (answers need to be supported by scripture)
Q1. CAN WE LOSE SALVATION IF WE DEPART THE FAITH BY REJECTING GOD'S WORD AND RETURNING TO A LIFE OF KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN?
Q2. IS OUR SALVATION CONDITIONAL ON BELIEVING AND FOLLOWING WHAT GOD'S WORD SAYS?
Q3. CAN WE DEPART THE FAITH FROM BEING A BELIEVER TO BECOMING AN UNBELIEVER?
Q4. WHERE ARE THE SCRIPTURES THE TEACH IF WE CHOOSE REJECT GOD'S WORD WHEN HE GIVES US A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH AND TO DEPART THE FAITH AND RETURN TO A LIFE ON UNBELIEF AND SIN THAT SAY WE WILL STILL RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE?
Q5. IS THE DOCTRINE OF ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED BIBLICAL?
I hope this can be a friendly discussion please based on the scriptures in regards to the questions posted above and I pray that the scriptures provided here might be helpful for our edification to anyone wanting to understand what the bible teaches in regards to the questions above in regards to our salvation.
May God bless us all as we seek Him through His Word.
No one knows God if they do not believe God's Word and do not follow what Gods' Word says according to the scriptures *see 1 John 2:3-4; 1 John 3:6-9.You must first distinguish between counterfeit faith (Matthew 7:21-23) and genuine faith.
Jesus said in the above he never knew them; i.e., they were never saved in the first place, although they certainly appeared to be saved.
Their faith was counterfeit.
Your response here...LoveGodsWord said: ↑ Here's a simply question that might help the discussion FG2. If someone who chooses to reject God's Word and depart the faith in order to continue in known unrepentant sin, are they in that moment a believer or and unbeliever?
Well you have provided your words here that disagree with God's Word that are not my words in in post # 2; post # 3; and post # 5 linked that show that if we choose to depart the faith and no longer believe (present tense to believing) and follow what Gods' Word says we will lose our salvation. According to the scriptures as shown in the linked posts above our salvation is conditional on believing and following what God's Word says as shown from the scriptures in post # 7 linked because whatsoever is not of faith is sin *Romans 14:23. As shown in the scriptures in the linked post that disagrees with your teachings, if someone chooses to depart the faith in order to continue in sin they are no longer a believer but an unbeliever so the scriptures you have posted are not relevant to your claims here. This is a distraction from the truth. The question is actually bogus. And irrelevant. The truth of Scripture is that when a person puts their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, they become a new creature, a child of God, sealed with the Holy Spirit. Can any of these things be revoked? No. Or there would be verses that clearly make that case.
There is nothing wrong with the scriptures here it is only your interpretation of them that is in error but allow me to show why from the scriptures if it might be helpful to the discussion. Let's look at the extra scriptures you have provided in detail if it might be helpful. Let's start with the first scripture from John 3:18 that says...And there are 2 verses that prove that once there is belief, there will be NO condemnation. John 3:18 - Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 2 Thess 2:12 - and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness. Both verses have the same wording: "have not believed" to indicate who WILL BE conemned. iow, these verses make clear that once there is belief in Christ, there will be NO condemnation for them. No exceptions.
Do they?Well, there's also Luke 14:27 and Matthew 7:21-23, which also affirms my previously noted scriptures...
