Dear Samantha,

" What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" Romans 6:1,2.

Well, my dear friend why in the world would you keep on sinning when you know that sin brings you such destruction?... " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Jesus came to save us from our sins so why then you want to go back sinning? True Jesus is forgiving but the Lord don't want us to stay in sin. He wants us to enjoy abundant life, and that is only found in Him. Sin separates you from God and without God there is no life. I don't know if there is a single person out there who is happy in his sinful condition. That is true sin brings you pleasure for a season but then it puts you in bondage if you want to continue in it. This is the fact of the matter "sin kills".

If you read Romans chapters 6-8 you will find that sin has no power over you as a christian. I have always a problem with this phrase "dead to sin," but now I understand what it means. You see after you accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour sin has no longer power over you... Christ Jesus became your new master. Being a christian does not mean you cannot sin... until you are in this vile body of ours you are absolutely capable of rebelling against God; that's why Paul encourages us to know what Christ has done for us to overcome sin. As you know we are really dead to sin positionally because we are seated with Christ... We are perfect in God's sight because of our position in Christ. It is really liberating to know your position in Christ.

Everyday we will be on a stuggle wether to deny ourselves or fulfill the lust of our flesh... that is the reason why Paul said " I die daily..." he chose to live in the spirit instead of submitting to his flesly lust. The main problem of ours is not really sin it is self. Until self is surrendered to God we will always have problem with sin. That's why we need the cross everyday for this self of ours. Remember you are crucified with Christ positionally (objectively) if you believe this you will experience (subjectively) the crucified life. Faith is huge factor in our walk with God. You cannot really experience everything God has for you if you don't believe His word with all of you heart.

Remember the Greatest Rule- Love the Lord your God with all of you heart, soul, and strength. God bless!!!

Samantha, I am new here and have only one blessing, but I would like to give it to you. Please do not try to wait until the last minute to ask for forgiveness!! Nothing is worth taking the risk of missing the opportunity to spend eternity with our Blessed Lord Jesus. Do me a favor.........pray for our Lord Jesus to forgive you of any sins you have and ask Him to live within your heart. Accept Him as your personal Savior, and lay all of your burdens at His feet. Then, even when the ole split hoof tries to tempt you to sin, you can call on the name of Jesus and ask Him to strengthen you. He will be happy to help you because He loves you more than He loved His own life. Believe in Him and trust in Him, He will never forsake you. I'll keep you in my prayers. :prayer:

like ...live a life of sin and then "tomorrow" repent , one major problem , in fact two , when is tomorrow ? (tomorrow never comes)
also , sin is habitual , that is why we are commanded to seek the Lord early , when we are young , before the habit of sin has taken over our lives.

Because forgiveness is not suddenly being declared "innocent" after having been "guilty". Sin is not the transgression of some divine law. It is nothing less than the denial of Love and therefore of Life Itself - it is the submission to self, which is the antithesis of commmunion with God, who is the source of Life. It is, in a very real sense, metaphysical suicide. I don't try to avoid sin because I don't want to get God all ticked off at me or something. I try to avoid sin because it *IS* death. The entire purpose of our lives is to regain that communion with God that our ancestors in the Garden messed up. And this cannot be accomplished while trying to play "mind games" on God.

With love, LK

Most amazing thing is that when you have accepted Jesus Christ as your saviour and the Holy Spirit lives in your heart and soul, you do not WANT to do bad!!! Being Human, you still slip of course, but that little voice inside tells you that you have made a mistake! True repentance and asking God for His forgiveness is easier than forgiving oneself!! This will make you think twice next time you come face to face with a temptation..... God knows you better than you know yourself and if you think you are going to fool Him, THINK AGAIN!!!!

To live a life "just like Jesus," is an ongoing proccess.... we live and we learn every day, we fall and we get up with the help of God and we try not to make the same mistakes again and again!!! This will set you free!!!! AND THAT IS AWESOME TO BE FREE! We try and win a little every day!!! Small baby steps!!!! untill one day, we will be spiritually GROWN UP!

God bless you my friends!

I cannot help but contradict, in that a verse just pops up in my mind:

"Sin is transgression of the law."

:|

while I do think there is truth in this post, it is wanting in scriptural accuracy.

Actually, it's plenty accurate. What I presented is standard Orthodox thought, which is very different from Western Protestant thought, that sin is something that stirs up God's "righteous anger" and that "Somebody" had to pay for it, or He'd have to burn us in hell forever to satisfy His "justice". (that's what I was taught when I used to be Baptist, anyway) You interpret that verse from probably something similar along that framework, don't know, just guessing. We do not understand God in such juridical terms, but rather in therapeutic ones.

The verse you speak of is in I John 3. I do not think a debate about interpretational ethos is appropriate here, but if you want to pop into The Ancient Way, we can discuss it there.

If a person is saved they will not want to live a sinful life also God knows our heart and he knows those people who think they will wait till last minute but beware that last minute may be sooner than you think and besides no one knows when they are going to die so is that a gamble worth taking, the bible also says that sinners will not be allowed in the Kingdom so how you figure that you can get saved and the go do whatever you want as I said God knows the heart there is a difference in saying the sinners prayer and meaning it and you truly get saved you will change thats not to say people dont backslide or make mistakes but they are never happy until they return back to God because once you are truly saved you will never be happy or sastisfied living any other way trust me I know.

God is many things, but one thing that He is not is stupid. Someone can live a sinful life and be forgiven later, but this person cannot lead this life deliberately. Knowing about the Truth and yet deciding to live a sinful life and expecting forgiveness later from God is the same thing as wanting to manipulate Him.

Why not think that maybe surrendering your life to Him might turn out 10 million times better than committing sins that ashame you and will later down the road obligate you to humiliate yourself before Him?

Who says that we don't live sinful lives according to Jesus and His Father? Am I better than a prostitute? Am I more worth to be foregiven? We all sin, that doesn't mean we are not able to try and live like Jesus. But heck, I am only human;) and a prostitute deserves the same respect..........

Amen,
Being a Christian is not where you attend church it is a way of living our lives and the Bible is the roadmap for our journey.

Just out of curiosity...when will later be? You know when you are going to die? Do you think christians just intentionally sin and then ask God for forgiveness? We don't. God knows we are sinners. The point is that we try not to sin. When we know we shouldn't do something...we try not to do it. When we (unintentionally) sin...we ask God for forgiveness. I hope you have enough time to ask God for forgiveness before you die.

sorry, don't have time to read it all. i was actually discussing this an hour ago with someone and what we came up with is that if you are living for Christ, then you shouldn't want to do those things. God has given us salvation, not because we deserve it, but because of His grace. There is a difference between where we actually are and how we are in God's eyes. He has washed away our sins and we are perfect in His eyes, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to get close to that lavel while on earth. Hope this helps...
God bless

Romans 13:11 "Do this understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber because our salvation is nearer now then when we first believed."

Do you approach each day with the point of view that you are now one day closer to your salvation? Are you confident that you have eternal life? You should be. Eternal life begins the moment you accept Jesus, not when you enter the gates of Heaven!

John 15:8 "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

He desires us to go forth and bear much fruit to His Father's glory. What happens if we don't...

Matthew 3:10
The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

^Side note, I often have difficulties reconciling the above verse with the knowledge that works do not get us into Heaven, only faith and God's incredible mercy.

Maybe you do not think sin is so bad, maybe you have not experienced enough of the degrading, discusting, short-term pleasure, long-term regrets, self-loathing you become, feeling of worthlessness, overwhelmed with disappointments and failures, tormented by demons and maybe even possession as you have opened the door with the key of sins. Maybe you have no idea of the darkness, the hopelessness, and the fearfulness of the future. Maybe you have no concept what how bad it is in the world of sin, with destruction, cruelity, hatred, crude and foul language. Maybe you have no concept of the vile, violent, void of happiness the life of sin is. Maybe you have not hit the pit of dispair, seen the abyss, understand the depth of hell. For the moments of fun, moments of selfishness, and moments of pride, you gain any number of combination of the above. Think about the consequences of sin before you continue in the direction you are thinking about.

One more thing....LONELINESS....without God to talk to...without the comfort of the Holy Spirit...you can be in a crowd, and feel lonely...you can be as close as you can to another human and feel misunderstood..only God truly understands and is with you always if you but let him.

Because just by thinking this you have already condemned yourself. Do you honestly think you can outsmart God? And if you lived a life of sin knowing in the end that you will simply ask God to forgive you, just how sincere do you think you will be? Your soul will be in an extremely delusional state (wrapped in selfishness and pride) you wouldn't even know how to ask for forgiveness. Asking for forgivness isn't as simple as it seems it is. Have you ever asked forgiveness from anyone, or have you ever forgiven anyone? That .00001% of insincerity will the basis of God's final judgement on you, and you might just never make it to His Kingdom.

Why not live a good, honest and righteous life? It is so much harder than living a sinful life, but in the end both you and God know that you have finished the race.

The example in the Bible of that "good" thief who was crucified alongside Jesus is not an example meant to be taken by just anybody. It is a pretty unique case. You have to consider the situation back then. Jesus was actually there. In those few hours the "good" thief was with Jesus, he obviously saw the Light and saw how much he needed repentance. It was a conscious choice he made but the good thief took the first step. The other thief didn't care the less, so he didn't even see the Light.

Don't make that "good" thief an example. First of all, do you see Jesus anywhere? I doubt you do. To "see" Him you have to believe. In believing you ask for forgiveness. The process happens simultaneously. You cannot believe in Jesus if you do not ask for forgiveness. Otherwise that faith you have is dead faith.

These days, it is virtually impossible to make a 180 turn around when you live a life of sin to the end hoping that God will forgive you. That is extreme foolishness.

Just accept that there is no competition. Whatever you do, whatever you think, whatever you want to believe, a life of genuine love and compassion is the foundation you will build eternity on. So which side do you want to be on?
