  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why Not Against Gluttony?

the US is one of the fattest countries in the world. Gluttony, while not considered an abomination, surely should be considered something sinful.

Why aren't those of you who are against gay rights (on the idea that it is sinful), are not against gluttony? It seems kind of odd and hypocritical, that a country so amazingly fat and disgustingly unhealthy should possibly have anything to say to a minority group who just want to be recognized as people.

Obesity, the tangible result of Gluttony, may be due in part in the West from excessive MSG consumption by young mammels. Excessive MSG consumption by young Mammels results in obesity in ALL species. Further the body changes as a result of excess msg consumption make the fat very resistant to removal.

Male Homosexuality is frowned on by many cultures. In the Jewish, Christian, Islamic Triad it is expressly called a bad way to behave. Since you brought up the topic of Sin, it is considered sinful by the God of that Triad. Follow the logic yourself.

Afraid, no. Bored with the subject, yes.
I am gay friendly, but I know male homosexuality is among the activities that are prohibited by the Law of Moses.

I know I am in imminent danger of being turned gay. Just yersterday I was thinking how a splash of magenta might just liven up my bathroom's decor. It's a mere hop skip and jump from there.
So are we talking GAY or Homosexual? I am confused. Fred and Barney had a gay ole time!

Excessive consumption. Who woulda thought that excessive consumption would lead to being fat...

It should be noted that gluttony and obesity are not the same thing. Gluttony is the vice, obesity is a state that might result from that vice. Gluttony can also be an act, as in when someone actually overeats.

On a similar note:
Homosexuality is not an activity, dude.

The state of being a homosexual is not an activity, but I think that Dr. Fate was referring to homosexual actions (and when I say that please realize when I say "homosexual actions" I mean, things that homosexuals do in so far as they are homosexuals, not just anything a gay person does), that is, homosexual sexual activity.

Seems that way. In a place and time where women were treated like property, seems like guys got the short end of the stick on this one. Lucky!!

~~~
Honestly though, the reason Gluttony isn't preached against as much as homosexuality is because gluttony hits a bit too close to home with most people, atleast in the U.S. Why preach against the majority, when the minority won't fight back as much?
Also, for the record, I would like to state that I'm a christian, and base my salvation on the cross, which was for everyone. So, if any other christians would like to debate with me myown salvation, You're going up against the cross, and you'll lose.
And again, for the record, I'm cool, awesome, sexy, and always right. :D
People speak out against "sins" that they themselves do not commit. All humans are this way. Everyone needs something to speak out against and it is much easier to speak out against something that you, yourself are not doing.
:clap:
This is exactly why I hate hearing about things like the Catholic church claiming politicians who are pro choice or folks who favor birth control cannot be considered true Catholics. Different churches pick different sins but the result is the same and the truth is that if all Christians were 'outed' in regards to their own secret sins and held to these same standards there would be nobody left in the churches.
Men cutting their hair or shaving their beards are sinfull indivuduals Leviticus 19:27
Guilty.
Having interpersonal contact with a woman who is having her period Lev 15:19-24
Guilty; it's kind of hard to avoid talking to someone who lives in the same house. Besides, I'm a woman.
Having a tattoo Leviticus 19:28 (Nothing about silicone breast implants though)
Soon to be guilty. (About the tattoo, not the implants!)
Eating rare meat Leviticus 19:26
Very guilty. :yum:
Wearing clothing made from a blended textiles Leviticus 24:10-16
Guilty.
Men cutting their hair or shaving their beards Leviticus 19:27
Not applicable.
Wearing glasses in church Leviticus 21:20
Was guilty, back when I actually went to church.
Wow, the writers of Leviticus would have hated my guts.
Not to mention that little sin commonly referred to as usury. Is ripping people off by charging exorbitant interest rates no longer a sin? The credit card companies who rob the poor will be happy to learn this. There are two possible references to homosexuality in Leviticus; want to guess how many there are to usury? Given this I have one simple question. When was the last time you heard a sermon on usury given in your or any church for that matter?
