Why its so hard to be on a worship team

I was having a hard time in the worship group. I dispaired about it for weeks. Then one evening, God showed me that my motivation was wrong.
My motivation for worshipping God was that His presence would fall, for there is absolutely nothing more I desire, so its not even a bad motivation, but its not pure enough.
God showed me that I should worship Him because He is worthy. Even if His presence never falls again during worship, He is still worthy of my upmost devotions.
This is probably obvious to you all, and I feel quite silly that it wasn't obvious to me but it has completely changed the way I approach worship times.

Thank you, I can't take any credit for it, I simply wrote what God showed me. I'm glad if it helped anyone else.

The kind of praise leader you were describing can be very harmful to a music dept.
Please Pray and see if you feel led to speak to him in love or go to your pastor.I really don't believe God has called us to be attacked and treated cruely (Past experience for me) because of an insensitive worship leader.
I am certain this does not apply to your leader,but a Jezebel Spirit operates like this in certain circumstances.I have seen a vibrant music dept. with 6 fine pianist,5 guitarist,3 drummers and a flutist.Along with 4 excellant,faithful praise teams (close harmony and all)that died down to 1 pianist ,one drummer, a bass guitarist and a very poor praise team.
I was a pianist and it was heart wrenching to watch.
It started with a male worship leader and 2 male part time leaders. They seemed to enjoy humiliating and embarassing praise team members and muscians immensely.
It was almost like they wanted to run the members away from the ministry.
Well it worked.The music dept. died and this once vibrant church is dying as well.
By the way the Worship Leader and one part time leader(One of them passed away)is still there.I will pray with you that your music dept will remain intact and useful in God's service.

i believe that one of the reasons worship is challenged in the church is because Satan recognizes the power of worship to God, and he desires to be worshipped himself. so, if he can take our focus off of God and put it on US, our problems, our flesh, our issues, our pettiness, our traditions, our religious sacred cows, and us, Us, US...then he can continue to keep up his antics and keep people in bondage. he has to go when God is praised.
also, worship is not something we do on Sunday morning after we sing praise songs, worship is what we do every day in private, on Sunday the public gets to see what we do all the time and are invited and encouraged to join us to go up to the mountain of the Lord!

as a dancer this is what i understand from the Word to be true.

I most certainly know how you feel! When our youth band first started up, worship sucked and the band members were getting at each other. My parents were ready for me to quit because of my daily attitude and the overall youth group was not being impacted postively by the band's view of worship.

Then one day we decided to take a new look at the band because we did not want to lose what we had. God spoke to each one of us in personal ways but the overall connection was amazing! God told us that we were doing this for Him, not for ourselves.

It's hard to be in a band, I have found, without becoming full of yourself and putting yourself above others.

Through much needed prayer and Bible discussions, God humbled each of us enabling us to continue as the youth group's band and just recently becoming SANCtIFIED.

If things don't seem be going your way, the only thing you can and should do is give it to God. If we hadn't, we wouldnt be doing the awesome things that we are getting to do this summer and in the future.
