  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why isn't there any good Christian metal?

I listen to symphonic/opera rock stuff like Nightwish, Rhapsody, Luca Turilli, Ayreon, and Turisas; and power metal like Dragonforce, Angra, Steel Attack (their old stuff), Falconer, Freedom Call, Celesty, Dark Moor, Metalium, etc.

When I'm in the mood for mellow, I listen to classical, or goth acoustic stuff like Agalloch.

Sometimes I listen to more straight ahead metal like Iced Earth (typically called power metal), Evergrey, Eidolon, and all the 80s and 90s classics (Van Halen, Scorps, Megadeth, Queensryche, etc.).

I'm a huge Steve Vai fan, too.

Extol's Burial CD is black metal.
hate to be a prick, but "Burial" is death metal with some black influence.

And anyone who disses "Negative B" by Sanctifica... well, I just can't take them seriously.

Underoath - I heard they were good once... whenever that was...

they were amazing back in about 2000 when they had their old singer dallas, their song were longer, more poetic, and had much more meaning, and they played black metal, either that it was speed metal...i can't really tell the difference between the two. Then in 2002, their songs were shorter and they weren't black metal anymore. Now, dallas left and spencer is the new singer, now they sound like just about everyone else, i still like it, but dallas was defiinately a much better writer.

Good stuff, I haven't heard of a lot of these guys. I do know Angelica. I had one of their tapes when I was like, 12. I liked 'em, even if they were pretty glam metal.

I've got Moth and Rust and I hate it. I also had two other albums: Microscopic View (or something--the one with Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror, which is a freaking killer song), and something else. I never was into them a whole lot. They were just too prog for me.

I'm a huge Megadeth fan, though, and Marty is one of my guitar heroes. I liked his stuff on Moth and Rust for sure.

I'm not 'dissing' Negative B, I'm just saying that it's not black metal like their first 2 albums were.

(The following opinions are solely those of the poster, don't take offense)

Extol - Prog metal trash. They couldn't write a melody to save their lives.
Tourniquet - Pretty much the same. A couple diamonds in the rough (Besprinkled in Scarlet Horror), but mostly just noise. No melody, no rhythm. Too prog.
Mortification - Lame. No variety. Boring to listen to.
Living Sacrifice - Too metalcore. Lack of melodic ideas.
Zao - Too hardcore. No melody, just overly distorted guitars. Too many breakdowns, not enough melody.
Norma Jean - What? These guys suck. Period.
Underoath - I heard they were good once... whenever that was...
Showbread - More noisecore lameness.
P.O.D./Blindside - Are you kidding? Radio rock garbage.

Sanctifica - Uhhh... these guys suck. I mean really, really suck.

Vaakevandring - I'd like to check them out, but where am I supposed to find their music?

Antestor - See Vaakevandring comment above.

Are there any Christian power metal bands? How about Christian black metal?
i agree except for the Extol. If want to hear good Underoath stuff email me. I have their first 2 albums. Soooo goood!
