They, plus a handful of others (which equally imply both flatness and immobility) are the only references of any kind to the shape or form of the earth in the bible. I think it's entirely fair to say that to the degree the bible describes the shape of the earth, it does not describe a sphere.
Oh, definitely. If you want an example of "here's something in the bible that cannot possibly be right", the flood story is so much more blatant and convenient. It's also a lot harder to pass off as mere allegory.Fair enough, just seems fairly irrelevant in the scheme of things.

...WatIt's an allegory for baptism, for death/rebirth through later Christian baptism. I mean really, I wouldn't come in here and criticize the theory of general relativity unless I'd at least learned the basics of it first.
We aren't talking about people, we are talking about Jesus and the Devil.People can't see that far, nor behind any hill or dale.
Except darkness over an oblate spheroid when there is a light source nearby and except light when the light source does not hit all points of an oblate spheroid at the same time.Anything that can drape, can drape over anything.
Riiiiight. All the "kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them" describes a bunch of villages around a mountain.I didn't recognize anything that suggested any physical shape to the earth
though the idea that one could see all the kingdoms from one vantage
point suggests there is one mountain, with villages around it's base.
No they aren't the only references to a flat earth in the Bible, just the ones that The Cadet referenced. I believe they are figures of speech as well. However, for creationists, it presents a problem that if passages describing a flat earth in the Bible can be dismissed as figures of speech then that opens up passages in Genesis that describe a six, 24-hour day creation to be dismissed as figures of speech as well. Are they the only references to a flat Earth in the Bible? Why on Earth is anyone getting bent out of shape about that? Just sounds like a figure of speech to me.
Where does the Bible suggest that the earth is flat? The "flat earth" is a myth propitiated by the Flat Earth Society.Since flat window glass is formed on a molten pool up to 1/2 a kilometer long
why would the Bible be wrong in suggesting the earth is flat?
Would the Scriptures be correct in saying your bedroom window is globe shaped?

It is always fun to watch creationists try to twist and turn to avoid addressing the issue, witness SkyWriting in this thread.
Where does the Bible suggest that the earth is flat? The "flat earth" is a myth propitiated by the Flat Earth Society. "Despite the launch in October 1957 of Sputnik, the world's first artificial satellite, Shenton proved a popular speaker to small groups, enjoying particularly talking to children, never declining an invitation. He claimed that satellites simply circled over a flat disc-world: "Would sailing round the Isle of Wight prove that it were spherical?", he demanded. As manned space flight started in 1961, Shenton began to attract international media attention with his denials, telling the Coshocton Tribune on May 10 that the astronauts could never travel into orbit." Parachutes aren't spheroids either.

What does the Bible mean when it says the earth is flat?
Is it talking about the shape of the planet?
How old do you think the earth is?I've maintained that creation days were not 24 hours.
Pathetic childish insults? And here I thought you had such advanced scientific education that you could refute any argument. You should address my posts for argument rather than
the imaginary voices you sometimes listen to.
Then you (unsurprisingly) get it wrong. I'm saying light and darkness don't drape well over an oblate spheroid. They drape just fine over a flat table.Light doesn't drape well is what you're saying. Got it.
