Stop trolling. You are not acting as christ would, you are purposely angering people. You are not achieving anything here.

If you wanted to stop acting like an annoying child, and actually wanted to discuss this, then go into the general theology forum and post it there. That way you can discuss it with people who want to discuss theology, and not music.

I doubt somehow that you are perfect, so stop going on about what you think others are doing wrong, when they disagree and think its fine. If you really have a problem with it then go and pray that we will all be saved from the evils of secular music, instead of just rubbing everyone up the wrong way.

lol okay
so if I am so narrow minded...show me some scripture that says a Christian can lsiten to secular music.
You have yet to show any scripture that says a Christian can't listen to secular music at all so don't hold your breath.

I'm just paraphrasing but that verse says to sing praises and the last three words of the verse say "to the Lord" not to what the Secular bands sing about.so yes it does.singing and praises and such can only be done to God if your a Christian

And we should sing praises to the Lord but this passage still doesn't rule out listening to music for recreation or just to appreciate the artistry of a song.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God.

There is the real verse, no paraphrasing. I think it states itself very well. I have yet to see where the word only is used at all. Maybe only the selected "true" Christians can see it.

The bible does not cover eating hamburgers, or pizza either. I guess I have sinned today since I ate both. How dare I. I'm a horrible Christian.

I should make a list of all the things that YOU have done that the bible has not clearly stated. Let's see the internet is not covered anywhere in there. You SINNER!

There is no point in "yelling" at anyone. Please read the verse in the OP, 2 Tim 4:2-3. A little patience and instruction is in order, no?

Still, Colossians 3:16 does not say that non-praise music is not allowed. By the standards that anti-secular music people have set, I can give you thousands of verses FOR secular music.

Gen 1:1
Gen 1:2
Gen 1:3
Gen 1:4
Gen 1:5
Gen 1:6
Gen 1:7...

...you get the point?

Here is the statement that started it all;
"The Bible teaches Christians shouldn't listen to secular music which doesn't bring glory to God."

In Col 3:16, the Bible teaches that we should give thanks to God for giving us a new life (if read contextually) by singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. It does not go on to say, "and that's all music is for." In fact, verse 2 says, "...Do not think ONLY about things down here on earth." Notice the entire meaning would change if the highlighted word were removed. Since it's there, it's implied that earthly things must also be thought of, but we should be sure to think of heavenly things ALSO.

As requested:
1 Samuel 16:14-23 - music played to Saul to soothe him - not to God
1 Kings 1:39-40 - music played in honor of Solomon's coronation - not to God
Number 21:17 - Israelites sang about a well - not God
Song of Songs - goes without saying

Simply Biblical examples of singing that was not done specifically to praise God. It doesn't tell us one way or the other if this was inappropriate. Nor do the verses supplied thus far in opposition to secular music tell us anything about it being wrong.

why are these topics still open?

i ask the mods to end this discussions as they are not relevant to the topic, which is discusion between those who do listen to secular music.

if yoyu have an argument about it, go to the theology section, not where you know that people listen to it.

To which discussions are you referring?

If you're talking about promoting your own website are personal conversations between one of two people, I totally agree. I think posts that hijack the topic put forth in the opening should be moved or deleted. Just my opinion, there have been several good topics started only to have ONE person who doesn't know how to identify the relevant issue derail the whole thing.

If you're talking about just general discussion questions, I mentioned in another thread, it does no good to ask those questions in a theology forum. For instance, if I want to discuss the Biblical pros & cons of secular music, why wouldn't I go to the place where there are Christians that SHOULD know? This IS a Christian-only forum, so the Christians here that listen to secular music should be able to articulate why they feel secular music is okay. Likewise, if I have questions about the Charismatic theology, my first instinct would be to go to the Charismatic section and ask Charismatics to explain their Biblical support. Wouldn't that be the appropriate place to get the answer?
