Right, the difference is immaterial for most purposes. I guess I'm just sticking at you invoking Occam's Razor, where it doesn't seem to apply.

It's convenient to use 4004 BC. Most people familiar with YEC know exactly what you mean, in part because that date has been well popularized.

But there's nothing particularly simpler about 4004 BC than 3961 BC (Luther's date).

Scripture does not give us the age of the earth only the age and geneology of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I personally think "man" made in God's image is different from "creatures" , which I belive includes prehistoric humanoids, in Genesis. There was a reason Cain was frightened to leave his family and it wasn't his brothers and sisters but one of the many other
human type creatures. My take anyway.

A god who left traces of human life way older than 6,000 years just - well why exactly? - wouldn’t be someone you’d want running things. Taking things like dates, numbers and so on as if they were intended to be literal is just a basic error. You don’t even know why you do it.

In addition, science can't find traces of two million Jews on a peninsula, even with the Bible having documented every place they visited in detail.

When it comes to the Bible, scientists do sloppy -- and I mean SLOPPY -- work.

Neither, the people living at the time and before quite happily left their own traces, without help from either science or the bible. Unless you want to define things like making pots (and potter's wheels) as scientific.
