Look at the story of Jesus' birth and you will see that God values simplicity & humility.Maybe because god doesn't exist. If he does the language of the bible is of little concern. What would be of great concern is the way we carry on treating each other, partly because he insists on staying invisible, you can only believe in him, if you believe he exists, he sent his son to a minor Roman Outpost, who never did that well, and when people see visions of god, Jesus, Mary, etc. Are the world leaders or farmers? An appearance at the G8 or G20 would do a lot more than all the priests, cardinals and bishops have achieved in the last 4,000 years in getting us to follow his massage.

Because of History. Until the 18th Century the Christian Church held supreme power, in conjunction with the god anointed king or queen. Since then it's power has been slowly chipped away at, separating Church and State was a great start. This process has a long way to go.You should be amazed that with this degree of difficulty in the understanding of the Bible, it is still the most effective book to unify the faith. How does the Bible do that? May be this should be your real question.
The bible is a tool, one can use it to deny gays and women rights, thankfully Christianity is past the time it was used to kill people. Well not completely.But this is a problem, as ultimately humans interpret the hinge differently and it results in chaos and conflict.

Since modern science has disproved much of the bible's early stories, education has made people realise how crazy some of it is, how we see what a mish mash it is, and we are allowed to discuss the alternative. Christianity is a shrinking religion. Counter that with Islam, which is growing, and see the difference between the followers.

WELL, the Bible says it is not the one and only Truth and most DENOMINATIONS list it as one of the Truths about God
so you don't seem to have absorbed what you read AND not paid attention to what churches teach.
