Why is some music "evil"?

Since you died with Christ and were made free from the ruling spirits of the world, why do you act as if you still belong to this world by following rules like these: "Don't eat this," "Don't taste that," "Don't even touch that thing"? These rules refer to earthly things that are gone as soon as they are used. They are only man-made commands and teachings. They seem to be wise, but they are only part of a man-made religion. They made peole pretend not to be proud and make them punish their bodies, but they do not really control the evil desires of the sinful self.

Im affraid Im not getting your meaning

I assume you're talking about my Scripture...

I'm basically saying that all of these people who are saying that listening to some types of music is evil are subscribing to man-made laws instead of what is really instructed of us in the Bible.

It's been around since at least early Jazz (or more), so nearly 100 years now.

No, rock & roll has not been around for "nearly 100 years". Certain elements were present in R&B and country starting in the 1920's, but not before, and the actual term "rock & roll" wasn't used 'til the 1950's...

Some music IS evil because an "artist" writes a song that is contrary to Scripture and therefore antichrist. "From the heart the mouth speaketh". Whatever the worldview of the artist comes out in their songs - hedonism, Satanism, hatred of Christianity, sex, drugs, r 'n r, etc., etc.

I laughed at one Canadian musician (Kim Mitchell) who was asked his pet peeve about songs/songwriting. He said he hates it when he feels someone is "preaching" at him. What he doesn't realize is EVERY songwriter preaches something in their songs - preaching ain't exclusive to religious people !;)

Hopefully, we who call ourselves after Christ will let this Scripture be our guideline in areas such as music -

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.:thumbsup:

What he meant was prosthelyzing, religious preaching.

What about music written for fun? A great example is a band called The Music, they have some great stuff, its basically fun music, no real point to it, its just fun to listen to.

Kind of like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

One slice has peanut butter ( the lyrics )

The other slice has jelly ( the music )

In order to have the final product the two have to be combined.

You can't have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without each slice.

Thus you have the music and the lyrics which form the end product of evil.

Why is it so hard to figure out?

In all of these threads, you keep saying this, but you refuse to address the fact that not all music is evil, advocates immoral things, or is sung by immoral people.

For instance, in one thread, you asked for a list of artists that I listened to so that you could demonstrate to me, once and for all, that the music I listen to is evil.

Then, when you found out that you can't make that case regarding the music I listen to, you completely ignored my post and made a list of the most extreme examples of heavy metal music you could think of, in order to show that all music and, by logical extension, the music that I listen to is evil.

You even went so far as to bear false witness against several artists who are your brothers in Christ, including me.

In another thread, you claimed that the music that I sing with my band is evil and went on to imply that I was involved in "evil" and "debauchery".

Naturally, I let your personal attacks against me slide, so as not to embarrass you any further but when I asked you what songs I sing with my band that are evil or immoral, pleaded with you to tell me, so that I could repent and change our set list to reflect less offensive material, you couldn't name one song that I sing that was offensive.

Now, not to dredge up old wounds, but if you're going to start this again, then we need to be aware of your past patterns of behavior and you need to be reminded that you still (and this is the sixth thread in which we've had this conversation) haven't shown that secular music is necessarily evil, in and of itself.
