In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not fornication if it's acting. If you act out a murder im

But regardless of whether or not you want to accept it porn IS acting, that's a well known fact. Acting is not a sin
Okay... acting is not a sin. I don't remember saying it was, but okay. Also, if you act out a murder, you're not actually murdering someone. If you're a porn actor, you are actually lusting and you are actually having sex.

What is the rational explanation about why pornography is wrong?
Let's take God's word out of the picture for just a moment...I have heard many say in the past that even if there was not a God in heaven, the bible's teachings are the best formula to follow to have not only a happy life as an individual...but as a country and a world...no body like to be cheated...not even the cheats themselves...if you asked a robber if they would want their child to be a robber he would probably tell you no...then go into a long story as to why he does what he does...a husband might cheat on his wife without much thought...but watch out when he finds out his wife has been cheating on him...the golden rule Jesus talks about is still be best way to live...I say all that to bring up the subject of pornography...some can look at it and be able to live withit or without it...just like some people can take an occasional drink without feeling that they have to drain the bottle...or in the case of pornography, watch it online from dusk to dawn, not even realizing how long they have been doing it...many preachers have been hooked on pornography because they feel it is no less of a sin than having an affair...but what they do not realize...usually until it is too late...that that little sin can grow into a terrible monster that can and does consume everything and anything in their life...this includes their church/priesthood/marriage/children and anything else they hold near and dear...that is what is wrong with pornography.

But what's wrong with Sex? It's perfectly natural. Acting out something God created in his image is not a sin!

Original pornography was written, not filmed. There is still a lot of porn/erotica that is in written form. It's all about where it takes you in your imagination. Sin is in us, it is not put in us by porn, but proceeds from the heart.

I was not born yesterday. Of course there is written pornography.
But pornography is not like the Bible in any way because the Bible does not make it it's mission and theme to be about sex immorality (with scenes that would digust and shame a person to sin). The Bible actually condemns sexual immorality.

Yes, sin originates in the person. But sinful things can influence or tempt a person to sin.
A person is more likely to sin seeing porn than not seeing porn.
Porn is the promotion of fornication.
Paul says to avoid evil communications.

Danbha said:
When one reads the stories in the Bible, whether it's Eve walking around nude, the aforementioned Bathsheba scene (apparently so attractive that David couldn't help himself) the graphic, lingering descriptions of the male and female body and how they feel to the touch and taste etc. in Song of Solomon, they are written to create a strong image in the mind of the reader. If that formed image is sinful, then what are we to say about the very book that provides those images? If the Bible, however, does NOT provoke us to sin, as you say, then those formed images must not be sinful.

There is a difference between a written report of sinful sexual acts or intimate love alluded to in the Bible vs. (versus) a book, comic, or film that focuses on sexual immorality (Which is sin). One clearly leads a person into a right relationship with God and the other leads a person into sexual sin.

Danbha said:
"If thine eye causes you to offend, pluck it out" etc. There must be a disconnect between seeing something, and sinning, even if that thing you're seeing is a sex scene (again, Song of Solomon). Please don't just say that the Song of Solomon was written for people who are in love. I don't really know what you are getting at with that anyway; is it ok for married people to watch/read porn together then?

Song of Solomon is not porn. To say so is to say that the Song of Solomon is not a part of the Bible. But all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. Song of Solomon is about love in marriage. It says,

"Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon." (Song of Solomon 4:11).

Danbha said:
I repeat my previous argument: it's not the lust, it's the lusting AFTER someone you're not supposed to have that crosses the line.

However, the Bible says,
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." (1 John 2:16).

Danbha said:
My previous point about the true danger of porn also stands. Done to excess (that line will vary with each individual), it can desensitize a person and cause those that a person is in a relationship with to suffer by comparison to the fantasy images they are watching. It's tough to live up to a fantasy for very long.

No. A one time act of watching porn will condemn anyone to hell if they do not repent of it.
Porn is a promotion of fornication (sex outside of marriage). Jesus said if you only look at upon a woman in lust you are in danger of having your whole body be cast into hell fire.

To those who say it is merely acting, ask yourself these questions as to the rightness or wrongness of pornography: "Would I be ok if my daughter, sister, mother, etc. were making porn for others to watch? Would I be ok if my wife/girlfriend had made porn and it was out there for all to see?" "Would I see this as 'just acting' in the same way as if they were acting in a regular movie?" if not, why not?

Show me your scriptures that tell you it's okay to pretend to sin.
And I'll show you scriptures that tell you it's a sin to enjoy watching those who commit sin.
Show me where I said pretending to sin is ok.

That's a poor analogy. A better question would be if someone playing a role actually killed someone on film to make the scene more realistic, would it be just "acting?" There is real and simulated sex on film, and the difference between the two determine the rating it receives.

The question is not whether the one who participates in making porn is sinning, but whether the one watching it is.

I think it's the perfect analogy. There are different types of acting, some are more interactive than others. The Bible does no prohibit more interactive types of acting such as what we see in porn. The Bible also does not place a ban on someone watching recorded acting scenes. So no viewing it is not a sin either.

I'm saying that it's what the person brings to it that matters.

"Yes, sin originates in the person. But sinful things can influence or tempt a person to sin.

"Man is drawn away of his own lusts and enticed"

"There is a difference between a written report of sinful sexual acts or intimate love alluded to in the Bible vs. (versus) a book, comic, or film that focuses on sexual immorality (Which is sin).

There's a lot of homemade porn featuring spouses out there, not just random strangers. These people aren't even cheating on each other. Yet, it's still porn. If I wrote an intimate description of the sexual acts between me and my wife, what's the difference?

However, the Bible says,
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." (1 John 2:16).

"No. A one time act of watching porn will condemn anyone to hell if they do not repent of it."

I will disagree here on theological grounds.

"Porn is a promotion of fornication (sex outside of marriage). Jesus said if you only look at upon a woman in lust you are in danger of having your whole body be cast into hell fire."

Again, what about those "instructional videos" featuring spouses? or the aforementioned porn featuring spouses? See where this can go?

And I am telling you it is more than that.
Otherwise why would Jesus tell us to pray so as not to be led into temptation?
God does not desire us to sin.
But you have to take action according to His Word to make that a reality.

if they are reading romance novels of men and women having sex outside of marriage, then it just as equally wrong. The difference is that the Bible does not promote such a thing.

Of course you do. You believe like most do. You believe in Eternal Security.
I think such a belief is turning the grace of our God into a license for immorality.
For if you say you can do evil and God still saves you that means God would have to agree with your thinking you can do sin with Him rewarding you with Heaven (despite your evil). But God is good. He cannot reward evil with good. It doesn't work like that.

Danbha said:

They are not of God. Pure and simple. They are still promoting porn.
God's Word does not tell us it is okay to create instructional sex videos.

While the king was on his couch, my nard gave forth its fragrance. My beloved is to me a bag of myrrh that lies between my breasts.

With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his intention toward me was love. Sustain me with raisins, refresh me with apples; for I am faint with love. O that his left hand were under my head, and that his right hand embraced me!

Your lips distill nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; the scent of your garments is like the scent of Lebanon. A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a garden locked, a fountain sealed. Your channel is an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all chief spices– a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden that its fragrance may be wafted abroad. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits….

How graceful are your feet in sandals, O queenly maiden! Your rounded thighs are like jewels, the work of a master hand. Your navel is a rounded bowl that never lacks mixed wine. Your belly is a heap of wheat, encircled with lilies. Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle. Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your eyes are pools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bath-rabbim. Your nose is like a tower of Lebanon, overlooking Damascus. Your head crowns you like Carmel, and your flowing locks are like purple; a king is held captive in the tresses. How fair and pleasant you are, O loved one, delectable maiden! You are stately as a palm tree, and your breasts are like its clusters. I say I will climb the palm tree and lay hold of its branches. Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine, and the scent of your breath like apples, and your kisses like the best wine that goes down smoothly, gliding over lips and teeth. I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me. Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the fields, and lodge in the villages; let us go out early to the vineyards, and see whether the vines have budded, whether the grape blossoms have opened and the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my love.

What is the rational explanation about why pornography is wrong?

Why are you interested in what we think? If you are a Christian you should be interested in what God thinks.

1 John 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." KJV

adultery of the heart:
Matthew 5:28 "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

But all of them are of the devil. All of them do involve some kind of witchcraft or dark arts.
Yes, there are certain words that are more specific.
But I do not see evil and wicked as being all that different.
Unless of course you want to explain it to me.

Not in any way tempted wrongfully when I read that.
It is talking in a metaphorical way about love within marriage.
There is no in your face gruesome detailed sex scene being pushed upon me here.
The spiritual man also seeks to look for the metaphorical view of Song of Solomon, as well.
It is not just a love poem for no reason.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable.

As I said before, I am not in argument against synonyms being related but yet being slightly different.
I am just wondering what is your point to this in regards to the topic of this thread.

To say any of this causes us to sin is to deny the authority of scripture, and to deny that it's God's word... because God would never cause us to sin.

It's in no way relate-able to porn. It's incredibly poetic, and incredibly beautiful writing... to compare it to cheap disgusting porn... smh...

Never said it caused anyone to sin. Saying that it's not explicitly erotic is just untrue.
