yes. How old is he? Young children (3 under) can not distinguish between things that are alive vs. inanimate. That is why they say don't beat up their stuffed animals. To them a stuff animal is just as a live as a real animal. What they understand is faces.

My children also were afraid of clowns, santa claus, the easter bunny or anything "dressed up".

Those toys that light up, clang and move are startling to some infants and toddlers. They are just understanding things like object permanence. (that when you leave, you will come back). They are afraid because they percieve these noisy toys to be unpredictable. (and often they are)

My four year old just started wanting to ride things that move on their own.

My 23 month old still does not like those kinds of toys. She likes things that make music but not the ones that clang, bang, move and blink.

Some specialists think those toys contribute to the lack of attention span our children have these days so maybe it is a good sign that your child does not like them.

He'll get over it, quickly.

My son was afraid of talking/singing stuffed animals. We had a winnie the pooh that sang the pooh exercise song that he would freak out over. A week or two later, when I got him up from his nap he'd look around his room and point at it "dit-dit". We sat down on the floor with Pooh and it was all good.

Now if the batteries on "Rock and Roll Elmo" would just die!!!
