Well, if we are going to "pick political pawns", I don't think it is wrong for an American President or his supporters to favor legal U.S. citizens.

Helping the homeless is not prevented by illegal immigration. If you're concerned about the homeless, lobby your local government to getting housing built along with healthcare (including mental healthcare) for the homeless. You're using the homeless as political props as nothing prevents you from helping them now. It was always a false news story meant to target Christianity. That's why it's been so slanted and edited.
What coverage did the media give the Black Hebrews who taunted these high school children for quite some time BEFORE the fake Vietnam veteran, Indian activist showed up???In absolutely none of the coverage I saw was the religion of the MAGA hat wearing students ever the focal point, or even a point at all. That the students belonged to a Catholic high school was treated as purely incidental information.
At no point was Christianity targeted. Further, it wasn't simply media outlets that saw the initial pictures and footage and thought there was an issue, the school itself issued a statement, as well as a number of conservatives. At no point was this a "evil conservatives/evil Christians ..." liberals, conservatives, the school the students belonged to, etc all saw the same thing. It just happened that what was initially thought wasn't the complete story, when the more details came out, the media was there to report on those new details and to provide counter-balance to the initial outrage.
Because despite the propaganda, the American free press still practices actual journalism; and Christians are not being targeted at every toss and turn. I am a Christian in America, and while I take issue with how Christians are sometimes or even often portrayed in popular media (movies, television, etc) because Hollywood is woefully ignorant of religion (not just Christianity, but religion in general); but when it comes to journalism Christians are not a maligned group. I certainly am told that this is a thing, but I certainly don't see it happening. Considering that the United States is still between 70 and 80% Christian, the idea that Christians are some mistreated, maligned minority in America is an idea that simply does not square with reality.

Making sure to repeatedly use the longer term/name--Covington Catholic High School or Covington Catholic--when "the students" or "the high school students" or something of that sort would be the usual for second and third mentions does indeed accomplish that objective. Democratic Party leaders and elected officials have a term for that technique: a "dog whistle."

Me thinks it would have been better if you had chosen to address what I actually wrote.Usually, as best as I can remember, referring to the school students are part of is normal. It's why "Parkland students" and not just "high school students" are used to refer to the victims and survivors of the Parkland shooting.

What I said was not that there was something amiss about naming their school, but that it was repeated in long form so as to include the word Catholic when that would not be usual for a second and/or third reference. Nothing you wrote in reply counters that.
