Hi,
A group of fishermen went out to the sea. Their wives stayed to take care the homes. They knew not when their husbands would come back. For the good wife, she keeps house clean, children fed, everything in order all the time. But the wicked wife, she only started getting ready after she hears that the ship was coming ashore.
The central theme of the bible is 'prepare to meet thy God', Amos 4:12. This is the present truth message that applies every generation and every epoch.
Every generation has had only a life time of preparation to meet Him. And none of us is guaranteed of a tomorrow. So the message is not to get ready but to be ready.
Jesus clearly demonstrated this in the parable he told in Matt 24.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Hope this makes sense.
OntheDL,
Consider the smiting. The following witnesses of the testimony of Jesus tell a story as they are chained together.
Rev 11:6
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and
to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. KJV
Rev 19:15
15 And out of his mouth goeth a
sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. KJV
1 Kings 20:35-37
35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour
in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
36 Then said he unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
37 Then he found another man, and said,
Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting he wounded him. KJV
Ps 141:4-5
4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
5
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. KJV
"He will have mercy upon whom he will have mercy, and whom he wills, he hardens". Hardening occurs through the deceitfulness of riches. He hardens the heart of man by giving him a full belly and peace in this world.
