• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know why it's so hard to overcome. I have good days, then I have low days but the low days are no way near as bad as they have been in the past.

I have no real answers, I'm just speaking here from experience, but I think one key is learning about your depression.

I did the usual thing when 1st diagnosed, went on med's....a big mistake! did no good and then had awful withdrawal symptoms (not to mention the extreme sickness I had when I first went on them!).

Then I had to fight to get a counsellor. Many said I had a waiting list of a few months! Fortunately, a Christian friend told me of a Christian counselling service and I soon started attending. That was the nearest thing I had to a cure. Learning more about myself and stuff really helped. When I get down, I try to put things into perspective.

The other thing that really helps me is a support system. For me, it's my partner. For others it may be family, friends, church.

The sad fact that I acknowledge is once going through depression, it always seems to linger in the background. Now that I know that, I can see warning signs and try to deal with it.

Life is full of set backs, even to those who don't suffer from depression, its one of lifes things. Its how we learn to deal with them that counts.

Trying to learn from going through depression I feel is a big lesson, but it can take some time to get there. For those going through depression right now, this will mean nothing, but you will get there in the end! :)

I think you were not far away with your closing statement "love" we are sencetive to love & even sometimes deprived through nobodys fault but our own.we should go out more to meet people & take up sports or someting we enjoy.building the confidence & energy is not easy.we seem to focus on the negitive which is not helping. we must learn to love ourselves.

Learning our triggers and what we can do to stop ourselves getting so low can be soo soo helpful. I have councelling and for me my self esteem is one of my biggest problems but I'm starting to learn that not all of the things I believe about myself are true. It doesn't work for everyone but if you can see if you can find someone to work through some CBT (Cognative Behavoural Therepy) with you....I probably spelt that wrong

why is it so hard to beat depression? I mean... whenever I feel like I'm great and all cured, I get back to being down... :( Why can't I be cured all the time?

Don't get me wrong on this one as I am only giving you the truth about what I found out about my depression and why I couldn't lick it for a time. When I treated it as a purely emotional disorder I basically got no where, but when I eventually considered that I might have a demon of depression I got permanent deliverence when I did pursue a cure on that basis. I am not saying that this is your case, but if it were such a case, then one would never get any help out of diabetes medicine when in reality you had the flu.

I'm not sure what you are meaning here either hlaltimus! Do you mean that you saw your depression as a demon that sort of had to be exorcised???
