I came to question the integrity of Fox News several years ago, and it had absolutely nothing to do with politics. Believe it or not it had to do with a concocted controversy regarding a video game, Mass Effect for the Xbox 360. As a long-time gamer and a long-time fan of games produced by Bioware it was a game I was excited for. The game is rated M for Mature in the United States, you must be 17 or older to buy or rent it due to some violence, language and mild sexuality.
It was the mild sexuality part that got blown out of proportion. There's no nudity in the game, there is a scene that lasts several short moments involving what you'd likely find in a movie rated PG-13; I would go so far as to say that I've seen more sexually explicit scenes on cable network television.
Fox News had an "expert" of some kind talk about how the game is a sex simulator aimed at young kids, claimed the "M" for Mature rating wasn't on the box where it could be easily seen, and other baseless accusations that anyone who had played the game could easily dismiss. They had a representative from Bioware on and he was treated with hostility, his explanations and corrections regarding the misinformation being put forth were rejected out of hand.
It was so absolutely bogus and beyond ridiculous that I couldn't believe it was being passed off on a legitimate news network.
In the years since, every so often catching bits and pieces from Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Gretchen Carlson hasn't done much better to improve my opinion.
I'm not suggesting other news networks are necessarily less biased or particularly better but generally speaking, I always come away from watching the network like I would have been more well informed by watching paint dry.
