Why I use DuckDuckGo instead of Google as my primary search engine

Unfortunately Google is also the best search engine for the things I use it for, by far. Sometimes the results pulled by Bing are just laughable compared to what Google will return. Duckduckgo is better than Bing, IMO. I would say duckduckgo is my second search engine.

I personally use Goodsearch.org where you can raise money for charities by searching. I search for "Samaritans purse". I think you have to register (it's free) and choose a charity before the searches count.

I still use google, but have used DuckDuckGo in the past.

Re-OP: I use duckduckgoas a protest over the ubiquity of Google. I do use YouTube, however, since they have many videos of kittens.

And what makes you trust the founder of duck? He has a history of selling user data before (lookup "Names Database Gabriel Weinberg"). He made $10 mil. from that and never apologized. He's a charlatan and refuses to prove he isn't doing the same thing. Your search history is a goldmine and I don't trust him in the slightest. There are open source alternatives where you can see the code they run and verify what they do and don't track: YaCy and Jive Search are the two I typically use.

Only 0.18% of users use the Duck. Baidu, which comes in second after Google, rates at 14.24%. This near-monopoly is dangerous. If Google weren't abusing its power already, we certainly have a situation bound to make it happen, sooner or later.

Forgive me if I say I think that using Duckduckgo doesn't really improve matters overall. Even if it does do so perhaps on some small scale today, it won't tomorrow. And as you've heard it sung, maybe many times, "Tomorrow, Tomorrow........................it's only a day away!"

There is a reason THEY think they're Santa Clause, operating by the Twelve Days of Christmas, and there's nearly nothing that either you or I can do about it.

So, just be good for goodness sake!
