  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because in a political arena where elections are "bought" by billionaires and corporations, she is the only Democratic candidate who has a chance of being competitive.

yes, her money and political connections makes it so she COULD be President
but SHOULD she be President?

You are giving no alternatives. If you are suggesting a "yes" "no" vote on Clinton, then the majority here on OBOB would be "no" as it would on every other candidate.

So, none of the 20 candidates running for president SHOULD be president. Is that your point?

I presume that your alternative is a person who supports all the political views of the Catholic Church and never votes against those views. Is that correct?

My favorites are Clinton, Kasich and Bush. All are well qualified to run the country, and to work with Congress.

If the Republicans choose one of the Republicans far to the right of Reagan, I would think Walker is capable.

Clinton can work with Congress?
we are talking about Hillary, not Bill
has she shown any ability to work with Republicans?

Kasich is interesting, I have personal reasons to like him, but I am not super well versed in his policies

Bush seems a bit too moderate, but maybe that would be good in working with the Democrats in Congress

REPUBLICANS
I understand that Reagan Republicans may be too moderate for today's party. I suspect that if the Republican candidate is to the right of Kasich and Bush, he will very likely lose. The majority of the electoral vote is NOT to the right of Reagan (or to the right of Bush and Kasich).

HILLARY
Hillary Clinton worked with other senators much better than Obama.
http://www.usnews.com/news/articles...dnt-know-about-hillary-clintons-senate-career
She served on key committees and understands the Congressional process. And, as you say, she has the best politician alive as her advisor, and available for negotiations.

As an aside, Clinton has had respect from Gingritch and others on the right.

Is Bush a "Reagan Republican"?

Bush supports the TPP which I find questionable

his views on illegal immigration, which support a path to legal status but not a path towards citizenship seems to perpetuate their lives as second class citizens :/

he is also supportive of Common Core

I suppose that Bush would more like Reagan if he proposed amnesty for all illegal immigrants, as Reagan did. Is that what you want?

You think Reagan opposed free trade? NAFTA was first proposed by Reagan.

Do you have any idea what Common Core is, other than a soundbite for Trump? Standards for education has been a Republican policy for decades. It is Democrats that have traditionally opposed standards for education. Common Core is just another Republican idea (like RomneyCare) that is no longer acceptable to the very right wing Republican Party.

well this thread is not about "how much like Reagan is Bush"
this is about if Hillary is competent enough to be President
what has she done

I support NAFTA
I think it makes sense to have free trade with Canada and Mexico
I do not think that the policies of the TPA and TPP make as much sense
the Pope said that trade is good, but unrestricted free trade can also hurt countries sometimes

WASHINGTON — Government investigators said Friday that they had discovered classified information on the private email account that Hillary Rodham Clinton used while secretary of state, stating unequivocally that those secrets never should have been stored outside of secure government computer systems.

Mrs. Clinton has said for months that she kept no classified information on the private server that she set up in her house so she would not have to carry both a personal phone and a work phone. Her campaign said Friday that any government secrets found on the server had been classified after the fact.

But the inspectors general of the State Department and the nation’s intelligence agencies said the information they found was classified when it was sent and remains so now. Information is considered classified if its disclosure would likely harm national security, and such information can be sent or stored only on computer networks with special safeguards.

How can you trust her when she is so loose with state secrets?

Hillary Clinton was accepted to school based on Hilary Rhodham's resume though, George W Bush would not have made the cut as George Smith, and his test scores say as much. Bush was a son of Rich grad who was growing in political clout and grandson of a rich grad and Senator when he applied.

Mike, your whole premise is fraudulent and shows us what is behind the curtain.

George Bush went to high school here in Massachusetts at the prestigious Andover academy, then he matriculated to Yale University for his undergrad degree, then he went to Harvard University, where he received his MBA , and was the first president into history to achieve a Masters in Business.

So lets get this straight. In your mind there was a coordinated conspiracy at 3 of the finest schools in the world to pass George Bush, but yet Hillary achieved less on pure academic fortitude.

Mike, no one believes you.

If you believe that Andover, Yale and Harvard don't have different standards for the sons of presidents, then you simply don't understand those schools.

Besides, Junior is not at issue today. His place in history is secured.

I always appreciate you fascination with me. If you don't think that Ivy League schools accept children of the prestigious or rich by a separate set of criteria than the rank and file are judged by, you may continue in your belief.

is Hilary open to working with Republicans or is she just too polarizing?

has she shown any ability to work with Republicans?

how many scandals have to come up before people just drop her?

Someone said that the email scandal is kind of petty
a minor issue
I agree, but I see it more as "the straw that broke the camels back"

Hillary worked with Democrats on many issues as Senator.

That isn't the reason you reject Hillary.

when Republicans are going for President, or even going for Senator, one of the thing that is regularly asked is
"is this person capable of going across the isle to and work with Democrats and be able to get stuff done"

right now we have a Republican Congress
I think asking if she is capable of reaching out across the isle and work with them in a meaningful way is a valid question

Bill Clinton was famous for being able to work with Republicans and Democrats in congress
but Hillary does not have the same charisma
that is ok, not everyone HAS to be charismatic to be in politics
but has she shown ANY ability to work with Republicans in a meaningful way?

you are right, the email scandal is not the reason I reject Hillary
but it does help to show that she thinks she is above the rules
If this was done by someone with a clean history, I might be more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the Clintons have so many scandals that I just have to wonder when people will be tired of it?

You might consider who Hillary is running against. I suppose that you think that Bernie Sanders can better deal with a Republican Congress than the Clintons.
