  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why hasn't America returned to the Moon?

There isn't much of a payoff, to be honest. When you look at the costs of a moon mission and that we'll only bring back a few more rock samples to show for it, it doesn't makes sense to go there anymore. We've got terrorists to fight and an energy crisis down here to worry about. We beat the Soviets to the moon, and that's what counts. There's no real reason to go back now.

I don't know for sure. Personally, I think the government (America) should spend more money and time worrying about saving their souls...not exploring the moon. But, I am sure they were go back to the moon in our lifetime.

hehe i doubt the government is in the business of spending money on souls and eternity.

30 years have passed by since we last stepped foot on the Moon...

Why haven't we been back since?

Could it be...someone or something told us to stay away?
the focus of space travel has changed from the Great Space Race (the moon and competition with the Communists being the focus) to scientific discovery and universe exploration. I mean, think about how many satellites we're sending up constantly... either for technology's sake (cell phones, television, weather observation) or for picture taking and discovery of that which is far away from us.

perhaps the moon just isn't exciting enough anymore. why send men to the moon when we might be able to send them to mars? kwim?

Actually, NASA is currently planning on future missions to the moon. Some time last year I read about it in the news. They plan for the spacecraft that they employ to resemble the old Apollo vehicles. In fact, they described it as "Apollo on steroids."

hehe i doubt the government is in the business of spending money on souls and eternity.

Trust me, we don't want the government to start trying to save souls. When that happens, you end up with a guy in a big white hat controlling everything. He calls himself Dad*, and eventually will persecute anyone who believes that the earth revolves around the Sun.

*If no one got the joke, that's a loose translation of the word "pope."

As mentioned, I too think its because they have been there, and new frontiers arose. With the new space shuttle style and the advent of the International Space Station, the Moon has taken a backseat. Mars has now come into focus. I too have heard they plan to go back to the moon - perhaps to set up a permament research base - and possibly as a launching point to Mars.

I think space exploration is a good pursuit. It captures the imagination of humanity and brings people together over things. It boosts peaceful technology and inspires minds to solve new problems in the search for knowledge. I wouldn't put this as bad knowledge either, but exploring more of what God has made.
As for someone or thing telling people to stay away, was the man in the moon worried about his enormous supply of cheese and that we would deplete it? Since space is a vacuum, I'd think the cheese would not go bad but would be aged rather nicely about now! :p

It was becasue the Moon was a Cold War publicity stunt. If they were serious about space they'd have been working on Von Braun style(big spinning wheels) space-stations and space-planes.

Could it be...someone or something told us to stay away?

Who? It would make a poor weapons platform if you are thinking the USSR told us to stay away. Do you mean to say it was little green men? I guess we won't be going back until we invent the death-ray then.

Golf and rock collecting isn't going to be more exciting under a reddish sky. (although the giant dust storms might add some excitment to a Mars mission) The problem isn;t where they go the problem is they do nothing exciting once they get there. Going into space/to the moon and coming back without doing anything exciting only worked when it was doing something no one had done before. So I think there'd be interest if they put a research station on the Moon, as a Moon colony is pretty much the official point at which The Future has arrived. But it will die down once it sinks in it's just a geology station under a permenantly black sky.

They are planning another moon mission for 2018(?).

It's a good thing that we didn't go back so soon. There were a few attempts that never made it, but there was so much we didn't know that we know now, like due to the lack of water on the moon, the dust was jagged and sharp and was actually eating away at the space suits and space craft at an alarming rate. These aren't things to take lightly.

It is quite possible the Moon was once inhabited by Pre-Adamic angelic entities, some of which may have survived on Nibiru as the Lord poured out judgment upon Lucifer and his realm. These creatures will someday return to the Earth and rule alongside the Antichrist, Peter II. My point? I think it is possible that we may be staying clear of the Moon for reasons other than economics and terrorism. I do not know when they will return, but it is possible that their return is already underway...
