Why has science gone to war with natural selection and evil ution?
Why has science gone to war with natural selection and evil ution?
Why do scientist spend more and more of their time and energy coming up with more and more ingenious ways of keeping alive the most feeble bodied And most feeble minded. And simultaneously finding more and more ingenious ways of putting heavier and heavier burdens on the most able bodied And most able minded. If natural selection and evil ution was allowed to take its natural course, The world population would only be 1 billion.
Ya -- we lay down on airstrips and take baby strollers down the runways whenever we think a shrewdness of whitecoats is on board a plane bound for a third-world country to share their knowledge, don't we?
Well, if I'm wrong, and some of you guys slipped through our lines and got over there, why are they still techno-challenged?That's because your only experience of us is through an Internet forum. You have no idea what we do in the real world, just as I have no idea of what you do. For all I know, you could be working in a research lab trying to cure cancer - and for all you know, we could be doing the same. So save us the sanctimonious guilt trip.
Now that's funny, I didn't even see a hint of that in Psudopod's reply:No, I was referring to religious people from a given country stopping science from improving that same country. Their own country.
Religious Americans do it to their own country, religious Somalis do it to theirs.
Are you suggesting that Step One is to remove any obstacles to "proper" learning? While definitely, helping thirdworld countries with schools, healthcare, access to internet etc is something we should be doing, why is it just down to scientists? It something everyone in the devoloped world should be taking a part in, but the right people need to to do the right job. As I said before, most scientists aren't teachers, so sending them to teach in Somalia wouldn't necessarily be the best use of their skills. They wouldn't necessarily know how to build a school or hospital, set up a network infrastructure etc. Might it not be better that they carry on producing knowlege and understanding, while a variety of other people help make sure everyone can access it?

What about when science supports religion. Religion may not support science, but science does support religion. No, I was referring to religious people from a given country stopping science
Lets make this easy, show me where science proves the Bible is wrong.
I am a GAP so for me a day in Genesis is 1000 years. I also accept the earth is 4.5 billion years old, so I go along with OEC. So the issue here is not with the Bible, the issue is with the way some people interpret the Bible. Actually the problem is with mans traditions. The Bible warns us to be careful of the traditions of man.No global/Noah's flood, world is 4.5 billion years old and humans evolved.
What does Greek mythology have to do with anything?proves Zeus is wrong

Do you seriously expect scientists to, do what? Fly to Africa?I'm wondering if, rather than just making a demographics of who has the biggest clipboards, any shrewdness of scientists would be willing to go there and build these 'lots of libraries', etc., and train these people, so they can start testing litmus paper, wearing pocket protectors, and programming scientific calculators like in the big league, eh?
Instead of sitting around saying, "Look who's not number one! LOL!"

Nice pictures, and I applaud what is happening there, but for the record, I mentioned Somalia -- which one of those was Somalia?Preposterous.
You'd be surprised.(said the chap with, er, millions of posts - I wonder what HE does to help Africa?)

In addition, why is Africa still so low on the totem pole, if knowledge is the answer?
I highly doubt that number is accurate. It would take him 58 years to write that many posts if he did 100 per day.
Yes, I know you mentioned Somalia, but I didn't want to be so rude as to point out how useless it would be to go to there to teach science. Somalia lacks the infrastructure and stability to support scientific research. Why go to the trouble, time, expense and even danger to teach people techniques they couldn't put into practice?Nice pictures, and I applaud what is happening there, but for the record, I mentioned Somalia -- which one of those was Somalia?
Knowledge is not the answer to all problems. It is an important part of the answer to many problems, however. In addition, why is Africa still so low on the totem pole, if knowledge is the answer?
