  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe remarkable God knows everything in the world(i.e what is going to happen in the future) and even He can change the future happenings.
Then why God created 'tree of the knowledge' and made them eat.

I know definitely there will be an answer for this question.

Very good question.

God wants to have relationship with us and have us love Him unconditionally. For unconditional love, free will is required. The tree was placed there and Adam and Eve had the free will to eat from it, even though they were told not to.

And yes, God has always known everything that has and will happen. I put it all down to the fact that knowing that we would fall, He has a great plan for us.

Hope that helped. God Bless :)

Great answer Illawarra Christian

If GOD didn't give a choice, then we would be robots -forced (programed) to love or do whatever GOD said.

I don't think anyone here believes their computer loves them?

The 2 trees represent 2 wills/ 2 people.
One is the Tree of LIFE (which they never got to it) it is JESUS. (HE is LIFE).
The one you discuss, is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
GOOD is a person and Evil is also a person.
The only temptation that could work, was for the devil to offer, what man didn't have (and that was to be god)
Because man had everything! Food, Family, Safety, Health, Life, and he walked with GOD (nothing lacking). Unless you think you can be God?
Which we can't -but that was the lie. In taking from the tree of knowledge, we learned evil (and we took on the nature of evil) which in Romans is called the 'sin nature'. Its really a satanic nature, that opposes GOD.

But in CHRIST, we start to eat from HIM. HE Is the manna, HE is the bread and the wine, HE said 'eat my flesh, drink my blood'. Sound weird?
Not really, HE is LIFE, so partake or stick with HIM, and you will be given life and life more abundantly.

Hope this helps!

I know definitely there will be an answer for this question.

There is an idea: "emergent properties". When you program something to do a certain thing, a certain behavior emerges. There are also side effects. Certain behaviors bring out certain other behaviors. I think that when God created people with the ability of free will, the act of this kind of creation had evil as its side effect, or emergent property.
Or
if evil already existed (always was) then free will attracted it as one of the possible choices...)

So I think that it was technically people who rebelled against God (not Satan by himself - I am not sure I understand this right, but it's not that people were all cute and innocent and the evil one made them sin, it was more like that the evil was a part of these people somehow or it was attracted to them or something...

So the children of God rebelled against Him. But He expected that knowing the evil part.

He planned for them to rebel as a method of bringing out the evil out of hiding and "killing" it once and for all.

ROM 11:32 For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.

Like in a case where we are trying to catch a criminal. If a criminal is hiding, we can't catch him. We would then have somebody acting as bait in order to bring him out. That way, we could deal with him when he comes out and gets caught.

So God created "bait" for evil to come out of hiding and reveal itself. He planted the tree. He gave a commandment. And as Paul said in Romans 7:11 "For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.

God gave commandment to Adam: "do not touch" and sin in Adam was revealed and came out and caused Adam to choose to rebel. And once Adam acted (or probably even thought of doing so), sin sprang to life and killed Adam's spirit. And therefore, Adam died spiritually.

Once the spirit was dead, God had a plan to bring it back to life by having Christ die for us and live in us and when the Holy Spirit comes to live in us He makes our spirit alive (or born again) or born from God.

If the evil was not killed off through this process, we would not be able to have eternity of happiness and bliss. But God has caused sin to come out of hiding in the early stages of creation, dealt with it on the cross and through Jesus living in us, and is now able to destroy sin and death in the lake of fire.

Genuine morality and in fact being fully human requires choice. But God did not make then eat of that tree. They chose to.

Only the tree of life is right there when heaven meets earth in open relationship in Revelation. Today we still chose to live from the wrong tree. That's what's wrong with the world.

I see this as an issue of focus. Pretend you are in your classroom, and the teacher says, I have a collection of videos along the wall on WWII, but right now you need to be involved in the lesson.

You listen to the teacher, participate in the classroom discussions, and stay in tune with the personal things going on in the class. (Like walking with God in the garden.)

You are tempted to run over and grab a video, but you know the teacher would notice. But maybe if they walked out of the classroom, you'd saunter over and take a look at a few, even put one in your backpack. (Like taking a fruit from the Tree.)

Just because it's there.

Humans are made with a curious nature, and God knows it. We always want the next thing.

I know definitely there will be an answer for this question.

Two trees in the garden of eden. God never said, "Do not eat of the tree of life", though death had not come into the world so they would have lived forever. Why then did God say to Himself, "Lock away the Tree of Life, lest they eat of it and become as us"?

Because the two trees were required to become like God.

Now, Jesus says God alone is good. Yet, God said of creation, "it is very good". So, what does that mean? Creation is not God. God fills all of creation, but it is not Him. There are levels of goodness, therefore. Knowledge of good and evil gives that ability to discern heavier weights from lesser weights. To weigh, to process, to make sense of, to valuate.

The whole ultimate objective was to make many Children of God.

That is, this is the ultimate objective of all of creation, of which the fall created the need, but also an essential piece to the puzzle.

That need was satisfied in Jesus Christ.

We do not yet see this product of the objective of creation, to have many true children of God, but it is on its' way. And then, the evil past will be forgotten.

When God created Adam, did he know that Adam would sin?

Here is what God set before Adam and Eve:
"...From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for the day you eat from it you will positively die."

Think of this for a moment; Would you encourage your children, which you love very much, to undertake a project with a marvelous future, knowing from the start that it was doomed to failure? Would you warn them of harm, while knowing that you had planned everything so that they were sure to come to grief? is it reasonable, then, to attribute such to GOD?

Matt 7:11 says
"If you, although being wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more so will your Father who is in the heaven give good things to those asking him?"

And consider this;
If God foreordained and foreknew Adam's sin (eating of the forbidden fruit) and all that would result from this action, it would mean that by creating Adam and Eve, God deliberately set in motion ALL the wickedness committed in human history!
He would be the source of all the horrible wars, the crime, the immorality, the oppression, the lying, the hypocrisy, the disease and pain. But the Bible clearly says:
"You are not a God taking delight in wickedness" (Ps. 5:4)
"Anyone loving violence HIS soul certaily hates." (Ps 11:5)
"God cannot lie" (Titus 1:2)
"God is love - he is a lover of righteousness and justice." (Ps 33:5)

The fact that God as allmighty are able to descern the outcome of their course did not mean that HE was responsible for it or that was what he wanted for them. Similarly, on the basis of what is observed, a weather forecaster may predict the weather with a great degree of accuracy, but he does not cause it or necessarly like it. Instead God gave them a choice. Everlasting life under perfect circumstanses OR everlastig dead... And he did everything to warn them against using their free will to something bad. He really wanted them to live forever in wealth and happiness. Because he is LOVE!

Satan then urged them to feel free to make their own decisions, without regard for God's commands. He said:...."You positively will NOT die. For God knows that in the very day of your eating from it, your eyes are bound to be opened and you are bound to be like God, knowing good and bad." That was a very effective untruth. Even though Adam and Eve were perfect....they decided to become independent of God, to make their OWN decisions....they deliberately chosed to disobey their creator and follow the example of Satan. Also today Satan use exactly this same tactic. He is tempting us to be independent of God's rules. He make us believe that we will feel happier by doing things in our own way, different from what God say is best. And if we do - we are actually believing Satan more than GOD. (Maybe without even knowing it.)

Exactly, and let me carry it a step further if I can say this right (that's a big IF)

What does free-will nurture more than anything else? SELF

In order to love God unconditionally, one has to give up or give back to GOD this "fruit" from the tree of knowledge. We must give up free-will "freely" and be in God's will. We must give up SELF in order to allow God to show us or awaken in us - our real, our unquie, our true SELF through the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are not who we are, until we become what God, our Creator, CREATED us for. Until then, we are just "livin the lie".

I hope I said that clearly enough.

There is a whole lot going on in the garden and we learn a tremendous amount about: Man, sin, God, Satan, the system, evil, God’s desire, and the purpose.
God makes man as could as man could be made (very good) but this is not as good as something that was not made (Christ).
God who is Love, would be compelled by His Love to create beings that could Love like He Loves. Love is the greatest and most powerful gift God can give man since it is the power that even controls Him. The problem is that Love (Godly type Love as defined by Christ) cannot be forced on man (take it or I torture you) and it cannot be instinctively given to man (a robotic type of Love). It must be given as a free undeserving and unconditional gift (Charity) and it must be accepted by man as Charity or the transaction will not take place.
Man has instinctively a desire for self preservation (this is needed and good for man), but that is also an ego that results in concern for oneself to the point that borders on selfishness. Our egos and independence prevents us from easily being humble and accepting charity, so that is the real problem. Sin is not the “problem” since it has an easy solution (un-forgiven sin can be a huge problem).
Adam and Eve began without any knowledge of “good and evil”, but did have a rule for a wrong and a consequence for doing the wrong. Adam and Eve are most likely the best of all human representatives and given just one rule to follow, they failed. ). A&E would have accepted God’s love to them as a wonderful parent’s love to wonderful obedient children and did not need to be humble and accept charity. So the problem is they did not have Godly type Love since they did not need it (they had wonderful child to wonderful parent type love). If they had Godly type Love they would have obeyed (…if you Love me you will obey me…). The easiest and maybe the only way to initially accept God’s Love is by accepting God’s forgiveness. God does not desire us to sin, but well quench His own desire in order to provide us with the best way for us to accept His Love.
The “knowledge of good and evil” provides A&E and all of us with tons of ways to sin. These sins become burdens and we seek relief. God’s forgiveness (Love) provides the only relief.
We all think we would like to be in the Garden situation, but A&E has shown us (and them) that the Garden situation is a lousy place to try and fulfill our objective. Would you prefer to be in a place where your eternal close relationship with God was dependent on your personal ability to obey God or would you prefer to be in a place where your eternal close relationship with God was dependent on your accepting God’s forgiveness?

The tree of knowledge of good and evil might be a metaphor for losing ones innocence.

There are natural laws that govern this world, such as an equal and opposite reaction for every action. To become aware of them is called duality. You were born therefore you must die. Everything in life is a duality or pairing of some sort.

However, Love is beyond this duality. Originally, there was just a genetically perfect state of innocence and love.

Upon finding duality we had our own ideas about what is good and what is bad. We went to war and killed one another over them, but the second Adam, Jesus Christ, came to perfect us in love, and since the Bible tells us that God is love, this is a valid argument to say that Love was what we lost in the garden of Eden.

Yes, it is as the new-agers say: we must abandon duality and come into oneness, but with the wrong Gods that oneness will result in mystery babylon, the one world religion of Nimrod.

Therefore there are two kinds of Oneness. Oneness with God through Love and through Christ and oneness without Christ onto satan and other gods. The latter will be satans blasphemous and deceitful replica of this truth.

Here is a hint. There is nothing one can have out of moderation that isn't bad for you. Not a single thing you can think of. Except for Love, we can never have enough Love.

Love therefore is the single perfect union of the positive and negative whereby all duality become perfected into a single whole. The tree of life.
