Why do people keep comparing sexual deviation to a person's
skin color? I mean, I know WHY they do it, but it is as invalid an
argument as it gets imo. It's pretty low too, to try to use that tactic,
but I guess anyone who is desperate enough grasping for straws to justify
sin will sink to any level.

Some of the arguments used against interracial marriages are similar to those against gay marriage.

I don't see how it is "low" or "desperate".

Why do people keep comparing sexual deviation to a person's skin color?

It's not sexual deviation, it's sexual orientation. And the comparison is entirely valid, because just as nobody has a choice about the colour of their skin, so nobody has a choice about what gender of people they're attracted to; and yet despite this, some people choose to make people's sexual orientation a reason to regard them as somehow wrong, evil, sinful, or (to use your word) deviant. There have even been cases of people being killed because of their sexual orientation, just as in times gone past, people have been attacked and killed because of the colour of their skin.

So, it's a perfrectly valid comparison. I for one can only hope that attitudes towards sexual orientation improve just as attitudes to people with differently coloured skin have improved.

David.

That is an interesting point of view.

I believe that homosexuality is an objective moral disorder so I could never see an ethical order within that community.

Bafriend, I just wanted to let you know that, for the most part, all of my friends are in the queer community. For the most part, they are also Christians. Many are more conservative theologically than I am. I know many born-again evangelical queers, even some who believe in Biblical inerrancy. I have gay friends who have been together longer and are more committed to monogamy than many "straight" people I know. In fact, most of my "straight" friends (who are Christians) have had more sexual partners than my queer friends. Many of them were so damaged by homophobia and heterosexism that they remained asexual for most of their lives and have only recently had the courage to let someone love their bodies.

In any case,
may you have a God-blessed week full of Christ's light and love.

Sexual orientation is a characteristic of humans, like sex (male or female) or skin color or height or left or right-handedness. That's all it is: a characteristic. It's neutral, the same as other characteristics. It's not a sin, not a disease. Just a characteristic. That some people do not like the characteristic of being gay or bisexual is not a problem with gay or bisexual people. If you don't like same-sex marriages, then don't marry someone of the same sex. Problem solved for you.

As I explained in my earlier post on how the Supreme Court balances conflicting interests and rights protected by the constitution, the story of inter-racial marriages and their treatment by the Supreme Court illustrates clearly the constitutional principles I was describing. Of course I knew that someone who does not read carefully would likely complain that there is no comparison between skin color and homosexuality. But let me remind people that I was not even making such a comparison in my post. I was showing some of the reasoning of the Supreme Court in striking down laws that are based on popular morality that deny other people constitutionally protected rights.

Jesus gives his teaching on divorce very clearly in the New Testament.

We know that govenment allows divorce for reasons that go against what Jesus himself teaches. For instance, California has marriage dissolution, etc. .

Now, as Christians do we take it upon ourselves to see divorce outside of Our Saviors teachings to be valid ?

Why, of course not.

So, why do some here promote that gay marriage be valid because of a government decree ?
so why do we then not outlaw divorce? why do we not outlaw the belief in other gods? it is because we are a secular state, where freedom of religion is held strongly.

i don't recall any scripture that suggests we should make others, of other faiths, adhere to our beliefs, especially as gay marriage affects nobody but those getting married.

Because bigotry is bigotry no matter who it is directed against.

Justifying hate and discrimination against blacks is no different from justifying hate and discrimination against Jews and is no different from justifying hate and discrimination homosexuals and is no different from justifying hate and discrimination against the handicapped
Or Muslims
Or the left-handed
Or Buddhists
Or Atheists
Or Hispanics
Or Asians
Or Native Americans
Or little people
Or Aboriginals
Or the poor
