Uhh... I'm pretty sure matter can be destroyed. An atomic nucleus weighs less than the sum of its constituents: n free protons + m free neutrons has more mass than an atomic nuclei composed of n protons and m neutrons. Thus, matter can be destroyed (or, at least, converted into energy).
I didn't say it couldn't be converted, just not completely obliverated.
