Why doesn't prayer work?

Pretty sure any sin leads to death...unless you're being literal and referring to murder or something.

Everytime I pray for something nothing happens. Other people I know pray and their prayers get answered. I am falling behind and failing at life when it comes to my peers and relatives. I think that I waste my time praying at night.

Jesus is amazing, however don't expect him to answer prayers straight away or see evidence of answer prayers immediately as 9/10 he doesn't show them straight away-from what I seen it slow change-doesn't mean he won't though!

Now my dog developed a fatal form of pancreatitis-this particular form she had is normally insistant killer-her symptoms were NOT typical and despite my animal course background, I didn't realise how sick she was, now she got sick Easter Sunday, Easter Monday-we thought she was gone on Monday evening and still alive on the Tuesday-so took her to the vets overnight stay and brought her home alive on Wednesday! Now there no doubt that the prayers for this old girl were ANSWERED-HE caused an ABSOLUTE miracle! Additional she has spinal problems equivalent to humans scholoisis and kyphosis! Now did the miracle happen straight away? No.

Sometimes Jesus doesn't answer prayer for a reason-He still listening-BELIEVE in YOUR heart and know that he LOVES you,HE will answer your prayers when he WANTS to, never give up hope!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

OK I'll bite on this one.
In fact, I will tell you a little true story.

Many years ago I was a part of a dual-ministry that was trying to help missionaries working overseas. The internet was still very new, and the whole idea was quite exciting.

Anyway, one day this "emergency" prayer message came in from a person who was deeply concerned about a Christian working in an overseas country. I read it and realized we actually had an answer. We had a real solution. That didn't always happen - but in this case we could have helped. So I sent back an email to the original poster.

Guess what?
NO REPLY.

I tried several times.
NO REPLY!
They were just totally gone.

So the plain fact is that they blurted out their important prayer ... and they NEVER even waited to see if there was any kind of answer coming back. I don't know what this person was expecting. Maybe in their head they thought that God must only answer prayers by shouting in a loud voice from the tops of the clouds. Could it possibly be that God might answer through the same medium as the original message?

Well that day God didn't answer - or that's what the original requestor would tell you.
Even though a solution was right at hand.

because the person who prayed wasn't even looking for an answer.

It's my observation that many times when people pray - they have already decided exactly HOW God is going to answer them and when. No wonder they never see the response.

I think he meant the unforgivable sin (permanent rejection of Christ).

Pray in Jesus' name, but I can tell from your thread that you're praying with little to no faith.

So you'll have to figure that out, but just talk to Him, he is your father.

It is hard to not give up hope. Especially when you pray for some thing for years.... How do you konw if the answer is yes? No? or wait? I wished I got a magical post it note on the wall or something.....

In the meantime I guess I can ask for folks to pray for me. Perhaps I don't know what I am doing in prayer.

Don't get disheartened my friend. He always you everything you deserve, even if you don't ask for it. Just have faith in Him and continue with your responsibilities and duties. You will definitely get whatever you want. Just remember, He always gives you the way to face each obstacle and the strength to overcome it. Perform your duties to their fullest and you'll see your prayers being answered.

What we want may not be what God wants for us.

It cannot be said that your prayers are not answered. May be possible that He takes his own time to answer them. It does not mean that you are falling behind or so. Even if you can't see Him, He is there to see all of us and even to judge us. You don't need to worry about His responses, just have faith in Him and your doubts would be sorted. You need to realize how and when your prayers may get answered.
