  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why Doesn't God audibly talk to us anymore?

I have heard other people say he has, I really do not No. But I did have Satan scream at me once, he gave him self away. Satan not as smart as he would like people to think. It was kind of Funny, the way it happen, I had just lead some one to Jesus the day before, he came during the night. Any way put on your full armor Of God. Because he is out there looking to destory as many people as he can.

The people who hear from God,receive thoughts, not a voice.God may not have verbally spoken to a human since Jesus was here so He's not suddenly ignoring us.As to why He doesn't speak with a voice,we can only speculate. My guess is that His voice is so powerful,it would scare people. If you don't like that one,I'll give you a more sophisticated idea.God really believes in giving us free will.Since the purpose of life is to test us to see if we will remain faithful,God wants to give us the opportunity to reject Him and His will if we so desire.Giving us verbal commands would be too authoritarian. When God gives us thoughts, its easier to ignore them and even begin to think it wasn't God due to a lack of faith on our part. Christians ignore bible teachings all the time,(yes Jesus really did say love your enemies and no He didn't make an exception for Iraq)so it seems that God wants to make it easy to reject Him if that's our will.

1 Kings 19 said:
11 The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD , for the LORD is about to pass by."
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD , but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

Sometimes God speaks in the quit moments, in a whisper,

But, these days, Christians have the Holy Spirit. (John 14.26)

I think He speaks to us through our conscience, and the more we go against our conscience the more hardened we become to His voice and selfish in our ego. The guidance is simple, even for children, but as adults we learn to read and further our knowledge of Him through scripture - hiding it inside our hearts that we might not sin against Him - becoming more complex and responsible as we grow in that knowledge.

I hear from God sometimes. He's told me what I'm going to do in the future, that I will be married and that my friend will get filled with the Spirit. He has also directed me to a book in the bible which I didn't know existed and it was very direct to the current situation I am in. However, I hear the voice in my head but it's not my voice.

I have read on this board that there was someone who did hear God audibly saying 'you are forgiven' but I don't know who it was.

I think you've been imagining things my friend. Also, He hasn't destroyed me...I'm still here, and more happy than ever :p

By some of your posts , I believe you No him quite well, you seen to have a Hate going on aganist God, why ? only you know. Sometime happen to you. You need to forgive the person who hurt you. God is real and so is Satan, you can live your whole life fighting it or just be forgiven, and live happen, it your choice. He is destroying you have you not read your own words.

Well I did hear Him once... all He said was "Just love her." When I was trying to decide what to do about a relationship situation. He sounds like a very loving father... though He did sound kinda disappointed that my focus was so off. He hasn't said anything else since, much to my disappointment. I really enjoyed hearing Him that one time... Maybe it doesn't happen as often as we like, but He speaks audibly as much as we apparently need Him too. That one scentence of only 3 words has helped me soooo much throughout other aspects of life. Just love people... it's not really that hard if you think of it that way.

But I would encourage you to ask Him yourself why He isn't speaking audibly... maybe He will give you an answer... that's up to Him I can't guarantee anything, but hey "you have not cause you ask not" right? (James 4:2)

Also check this verse out... I've been intrigued by it recently:

Amos 8:11
"Behold, days are coming," declares the Lord GOD,
"When I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water,
But rather for hearing the words of the LORD.

Let the Holy Spirit fill you up and God will talk to you :prayer: ...also don't look for the obvious "Hey there, how are you today?" kinda talk...God also talks through other Christians, dreams, symbols, and angels. ;)

I speak to God all the time and as Raphe said, he usually speaks to us through our heart or conscience. But one time, the night I was baptized in the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues for the first time, God did speak audibly to me. I opened my eyes while I was praying because I seriously thought someone else had said it.

Anyway, I question whether most of the situations in the Bible were an audible voice or just the still, small voice in their hearts.

I think God still speaks to us audibly. The Bible doesn't always clarify how the hearer is actually hearing. When Paul is talking about his experience on the Damascus road he mentions that those with him saw a light but didn't hear anything. (Acts 22:9) Also the prophets etc. quite often only say something like "I heard the voice of the Lord" but they don't say whether that hearing is external or internal or what exactly. I can relate 3 occasions when the Lord spoke to me. It wasn't like a thought in my head or heart. It wasn't my conscience speaking. It was wholly different, a voice separate from me yet within me. I firmly doubt that any others would have heard the voice yet I cannot say it was inaudible. It was very audible and indeed made me "jump" at first. Now on a lighter side, there may be another reason why it would appear God does not speak audibly. I have heard it said ... "we speak to God and that is prayer. God speaks to us and that is insanity." :)
It might be that rational people don't want to discuss the issue in case they are thought to be insane. Of course, I have just dobbed myself in, so I might really be insane! :D
take care

God has spoken to me two times. The only way to describ it was loud and fast. I was on the phone both times to the same person of whom I have never personally met. (ham radio) He was telling me how he had two children that both died at diffenent times in a freek accident. God only said "witness now" and it was as loud as thunder but it did not hurt my ears. Also it got instantly dark in the room but I could still see (you figure out that one I can't). The second time this happened I was at home and the wife was in the next room and of course she did not know that anything happened. Yes HE does still speak!
