Why does the universe exist?

The why doesn't matter, it's the how that's important.

The how deals with science. The why deals with philosophy. Sometimes philosophy is the grappling hook that science uses to gain ground. I think both are very important as we should ask: "Why do we want to know how?"

Wouldn't God have complete control over his emotions though? I can't think that an omnipotent God would be unable to give himself pleasure without making any actions where even some mortal humans have mastered there feelings to such an extent.

It is impossible to argue against God. If, say, he is not right; he could just make himself right. I mean, since he knows everything perfectly, its not like he's gonna do anything imperfect. If it pleases him to please others, then he will do this. It requires others though.

That made little sense. How am I arguing against God? If I am not mistaken he is absent at the present time or atleast not available for debate.

I like to think that we exist in this world so that we have a bench mark with which to compare to our future heavenly existance.

Well, since I believe God made the universe, I think He created it to show us His majesty and leave us in awe of His creation.

How? 99% of people who ever live will observe no more than a miniscule fraction of the universe. An infinite, unbounded space-time matrix is stupendous overkill merely to instill a sense of awe in the minds of simplistic beings.

A couple celestial bodies and a sun wouldn't be as spectacular.

But, say, 100,000 galaxies might, as opposed to unseen billions.

I also think God did it to show, that even with this enormous and incomprehensibly complex universe, we are special despite being insignificant in the grand scope of things. God created all of this for us. I think thats incredible.

A million billion galaxies all for us? I think that's insane.

It is written in the prophets that the stars are longing to be visited by man. I think, after all is said and done, we will spend a good bit of our eternity exploring infinity. If your going to live forever, why not make an eternal playground?

we are not going to live orever though. the lifetime of the universe is rather finite.

Thats your opinion. As it is, we are currently mortal, because we fell. With us came all of creation. The universe will not be "mortal" after creation is restored at the Great Wiping Clean.
