Why does Mormonism want to be Associated with Christianity?

Thats a pretty important point.
I stated somewhere the most astounding and earth shaking experience for me then. I was researching God and the Bible in those days. One day, everyone I worked with gathered around me, to ask me a single question. It was: "Do you think all of us know if our religion is right or wrong?" My answer then was Yes. Yes I do think you all know. One by one, including the Mormon which also starteled me, shook their heads. This is what you are saying, is true for all religioins. Most peope just don't know.
In fact very few people, but there are some, do know. Yet, if they know, then those you don't hear from, for they are like this, to you. Yes, he/she is right, no one had to know God perfectly. None of us, typically do. We don't.

As far as for similarities, I think that does and should scare you and the others. It does me. I see similarities and differences in all religions, even philosphies. And when faced with them, they shock my fact system. Yet, it survives intact, as long as none of those facts are wrong. Yet, even this year, I have been given two items, I thought were true, so they weren't really facts. I knew that ahead of time. Before though, that I knew they were not true, I treated those two items as true.
There are many similarities. I would say to your last point, that many of us talk about what we have been told as truth. So, we are using hearsay, in legal terms. These are not first hand accounts. Maybe that is where all the fights begin.
Before I leave you, I sense caring in your words, and I am sorry for your pain. If you struggle enough, you will find truth, where ever it is, and I am not telling you where it is. But, remember, you are right about not getting things totally right with God. Other things are more important to Him. One of those is your heart, meaning what you think of others and how you treat them and what you wish for them.

One of the basic tenets of the Christian faith is that there is only one God...there never has been any other Gods except the One God Who created the universe, and there never will be any other Gods.
To be a Christian, means that you believe that there is One God and One God only.

Unless I have misunderstood what various LDS members have told me, they believe that the Christian God was raised to His position by another God, which makes two Gods, not one.
The God Who raised the Christian God was, in turn, raised by yet another God...which gives us three separate Gods...and so it goes, on and on, with, evidently, no beginning, since the universe either always existed or was somehow created by one of these Gods from already existing matter, although how that God came into existence is a bit vague.
Also, they believe that the Christian God will also raise other men to be Gods in the same way...in fact, He has done so already. In fact, all of these Gods have raised other Gods, who raise other Gods, who raise other...well, you get the idea.
Of course, they will tell you that since the universe is infinite that there is plenty of room and to spare for all of these Gods to have their own realms...

However, it would seem to be a pretty far cry from monotheism. The fact that they only know and worship one of these myriad Gods doesn't change the fact that they believe in them. They even expect that one day some of them will also be "exalted" to Godhood themselves.

They may call themselves Christians all they like. I can call myself Cinderella...doesn't mean I'm going to marry a prince...

I asked. It seems a man must be married in order to be "exalted", although the why is a bit vague, as is the woman's eventual fate. She doesn't seem to reign alongside her husband. When asked if she is exalted along with her husband, the answers are a bit vague.

Mormons teach that Heavenly Father has a wife, Heavenly Mother.

Yes, Katie, that is exactly what they teach...and have always taught. God was a man, like any other man. He was born, like any other mortal child, on a planet called Kolob...or is it a planet circling a star called Kolob? He fulfilled the requirements of the god of that planet, who then "exalted" him to godhood and either gave him our planet to rule, or he created our planet. There are, as we speak, men who believe that, if they also meet the requirements, god will "exalt" them, also, to be gods of their own worlds.
Yes, this is what they teach, and what they expect to happen to them.

Hi,
In support of TheBarrd, because she is objectivly right, and very kind, but has much experience with males, let me tell you of an encounter I had with her, when I was being attacked. She came in and told the man what he actually was. Later it became blatantly obvious to everyone, that she is and was right.
That impressed me. Here you accuse her, not of being the kind, loving, sweet grandmother of *7, that she is, but of being rough verbally. She is not.
In the workplace, many address me as hun, or sweetie or in any number of ways and all those who are real, make my day. She is real. Yet, I in my workplace work with Pulled The Trigger type combat veterans, who give their time freely to the community, thus they are the best of the best of Pulled The Trigger types, as they also, love, like and put others before themselves. TheBarrd is like that.
She also is incredibly well educated, and she if very very smart, but she is also certainly connected to God personally, as I have seen, in her comments and in her knowledge. The God. She is connected to The God.
Please allow her to be her, the loving grandmother, loved by God Himself. Realize that if you miss her statements, it maybe that you missed them. I totally see her logic.
The fact that Christians disagree in any forum is a fact. She helped me much with a person, that was convinced of his own mental superiority. He did not have the capacity, to perceive. He then resorted to attacks and accusations. He got personal, and in illegal ways, no one called him on that.
Please see her as objective. Now as I leave you here. I will define a word for you, before I use it.
Once upon a time, The God gave me a gift, unbeknownst to me. It took me about 6 months for me to get used to that gift, and it took all of my then in 2007, workmates some time to get used to it also.
When that gift reached it's peak, I could not find a way to tell others, how I was treating them. I could not. So, that I kept to myself.
The gift went something like this. After being treated by "Someone", with A GIFT, in January of 2006, part of which was seeing THE ESSENCE of God, not two feet away from me, much in me was as never before. One of those items was LIKE. As LIKE, started to happen, everyone at work dropped by my desk every chance they got. Soon after that, I was able to multitask, and never in my life have I been able to do that. Yes, I knew what it meant, but that is off the point here. At work it meant all these people could come by my desk, and I still did 80% of the workload, for 4 people at work, and also listen to all of them. LIKE as it started developing, changed me. I went from me centric, to you centric. I could not get enough time and information about everyone's life. One day, I noticed this. I had to decide then what to do. I decided I liked it. It continued.
Months passed, then one day, LIKE, changed to love. I didn't want to tell anyone, but how can I not. My job was so central and so public, that there is no way to hide out loving everyone, rather than LIKING, everyone. In three days, gently I told them all.
"I like all of you, but that has changed. It is now love, and no, I don't mean that romantically. I don't mean I want to date you guys, or you (the woman), it is another kind of love. I just wanted you to know, as it changed, and it is no longer like, it is love"
Eventually love changed to LOVE, God's actual form of love. That I could tell no one of. I didn't know how. Now for you, that gift was eventually passed on. I learned from that. Hopefully I remember how to do that now.
When I sign off as LOVE, it is God's form of love, at least as much as I can remember and mimic that.
