Why does God need to test our hearts if he knows everything?

Let's take this logic to the extreme: Since God knows everything, why bother creating the universe? Why bother creating anything?

The testing is for us so that we know ourselves. Hopefully, we would learn and grow in faith as part of the sanctification process.
