Why Do you play that instrument? Is it for your personal gain or for HIS praise...some for money, others for recognition, fame, prestige, class amidst pals and peers, worldly pleasure, social status... Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, ...think on these things

I don't consider my God-given talent in music a necessity to evangelize. I see it simply as a gift to make people happy, to pull them away from their immediate troubles. It isn't noisy, it isn't full of jamming, it isn't outside of true melodic sounds..... It is however designed for casual, quiet, restaurant settings, wedding dinner music, private parties for the banking industry during the holidays, and of course a New Year's gig occassionally. We are good at what we do and it makes people happy. What is so difficult about that? "Happy is the man who does not condemn himself in that thing which he allows." I can perform three hours of instrumentals on guitar, along with my identical twin brother on bass guitar, we enjoy our talent and perform as often as we can, just as long as it doesn't conflict with our jobs. We play a dozen or so songs on youtube; type in "vwbug1971" scroll down and you will see Denny and Dave duo. We are well liked wherever we play and the challenge to improve my talent grows with every passing gig. So, as I see it, smile and enjoy your talent, just don't run it too far over the edge and take away from its warmth and attention to quality atmosphere for those listening. This in no way ignores God, if anything, it speaks of His ability to work in a person's life and for that we both thank you Lord.

I took up guitar at 14 after seeing a blind uncle play. He played a nylon stringed guitar similar to the style of Chet Atkins/Andres Segovia. He was so proficient, my sisters and I tried stumping him by requesting songs we didn't think he knew how to play. Were we wrong!

When I got proficient with it, it was to draw attention to me. I played in several secular bands through the years: A British invasion band, an acid/hard rock band, a C&W band and with a lounge lizard band. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, I played in a Catholic charismatic choir and was always trying to outdo the other musicians. Again drawing attention to me.

However after getting saved, I recognized the selfishness of my ways and humbled myself. I now play Sundays for His glory because He's worthy of all my praise.
