  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why do you do craft work?

I know that some people just enjoy it but does anyone have another reason for doing craft? I do it because it's great therapy and it keeps my mind occupied :) although I have to have several projects on the go at once in order for that to work.....

I mostly craft because I enjoy it. It's fun to give something homemade (to someone who appreciates handmade items). It can also be theraputic for me as well. I love my famly, however they get on my nerves a lot, thus I crochet. The more upset, angry, with them, the faster I crochet...... my sister makes fun of this fact. If that tells you anything, she recognizes it and mocks me. Oh, well.... I guess that's just my sister.

I think part of why we like to craft is because we are made in the image of God.

Think about it. He created the whole world, the whole universe, and everything is different and unique! I think every person has a part of themselves that likes to be creative in some way. It shows up differently in different types of people.

Some people are openly comfortable with crafts or artwork.
Others are creative in the way they do things - like maybe creative in the way they cook.
Or how about creative in the way they decorate?
Some people are creative in ways they can make their salary stretch.
Some are creative in the garden.
Others create with words or music.
Even kids - one of the first things children like to do is draw!

All in all, I don't think I've ever met anyone that wasn't creative in some way!

I think that more and more people really appreciate receiving a gift you made especially for them. AND it's a great balance against the crazy pace of things at work for me. The only irksome thing is my boss says things like: "I don't have time to sit around and make pretty things" Implying that I'm lazy I guess, but I don't have lots of time either, I just leave my dishes in the sink a little longer than I should!!! ;) Priorities, it's all about priorities...

I do it because I just like it. I like to make things for my home and my friends. I love making afghans for babies. And it keeps my hands and my mind busy so I don't think about food all the time! Also I can't just sit and watch TV or chit chat, I feel like I have to be doing something else at the same time so most of my crafting is done while watching TV or talking with people, talking on the phone.

In a way this is a hard question...but on thinking about it, I remember going to the store to buy something for a loved one's birthday gift, and always seeing how they are made, and then, ... "Hey, I could make one of these!" ... and then visits to the crafts shops are always inspiring, too. Either it is in my genes, or perhaps just the desire to do it better than the store-bought kind happen to be. Plus, it is fun to do.

I sketch and color because I have a lot of images in my head. (Overactive Imagination?) I want to keep many of these ideas, though I'm not always sure why.
My style is anthromorphic, which allows me to express my feelings without someone thinking the picture is about them. (Some of the characters are based on real people, but that's another story.)
The other reason is to stay out of trouble. I am a recovering addict, and have replaced my addictive activity with artistic endevour.
I believe everyone should be proud enough to sign their name to their work. The Creator did, you can see his signature everywhere.
