  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't know about the "most". Even some do, it is because they do not really think about it. Just like most Muslims do not take Koran real seriously (thanks God).

Like I said, TE has tons of "extra" problems. It is a bad theology.

Funny... I see your theology as the bad one.

(emphasis mine) Ah... this I do not have a problem with, per se. I have no problem with those who accommodate reality within their religious beliefs, as I do not see religion as problematic in itself. It is when theists reject reality for their religion, and then try to impose this descision on others that I object.

Nonsense. There has been plenty of evil perpetrated on behalf of "divine revelation." It is all, in a sense, based on man's understanding, including his understanding of what is considered "divine revelation."

The bible is clear about revelation being understood through the indwelling spirit of God ("he who has ears to hear"). One who commits atrocities in the name of God has seriously misused the revelations of God. This includes the so-called 'great' Christian religions of the 'world'. On a personal level I was in a fundamentalist type church for 25 years and was constantly appalled by the unChristianlike behavior and attitudes of many in the church, including many in leadership positions.

It is a monster most Christians world-wide seem to have no trouble with.
Only in America is it such a problem with Christianity.

Of course we are to observe and reason. However the tree presented differing choices of what we would choose to believe. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with believing in evolution, but, if it leads you away from the knowledge of God one might conclude that is part of the 'knowledge of evil'. Jes' sayin'.

Recall that the root words contained in the two opposing bodies of knowledge are 'good', from 'God', and 'evil', from 'devil'? Note that the Hebrew root for serpent embodies the scientific method of observation and reason, whereas the 'knowledge of (God)' comes by revelation. Most of man's problems come from 'leaning on his own understanding', and by rejecting revelation.
Here is my problem - I understand how science works, that I can check the results and see the evidence. I can read the research, see what other scientists think of this work and, by scrutiny and repetition we can see what is true and what isn't.
How can I tell if revelation is true or made up?
How can I tell if the bible, in whole or in part, is made up?

For example?

The forbidden tree is a good illustration. Its fruit looks good and tastes good (satan told the truth). So why not eat it? Adam does not understand the real reason. That is why he ate it.

If your reason conflicted with what God says, it is because you do not understand the real reason.
It has long puzzled me why God is so against humans having knowledge or wisdom.

It has long puzzled me why God is so against humans having knowledge or wisdom.

If the Eden account is literal, then it all was a setup...God knew that Satan would tempt Eve...and Eve would tempt Adam and that they both would disobey him.

Would you, as a loving father, put your own children in a playroom...then place a glass of poisoned Koolaid on a table in the middle of the room and tell them not to drink it?...and then allow the Koolaid commercial to play next to it saying how good it was....of course not!

God never intended for man to pass the temptation test (he foreknew that Adam would fall!)...it was merely the first step in a long process that would build character into the human race....from robots to 'humans'...to eventually the 'bride' of Christ.

Maybe you should do a bible word search on 'wisdom' or 'knowledge'. You might be surprised how important it is to God. Of course it is a different kind of wisdom from the 'wisdom of the world'. Man's wisdom (the devil's wisdom) leads toward misery and death. God's wisdom (the knowledge of God) leads toward happiness and life.

I'm waiting for evolution to produce decent human beings. As it is mankind fits the evil description given by God in the bible. Now there's food fer thought. ;)

I am waiting to see some sort of perfect creation too. ;)

Not to sound overly 'religious' but I wish with all my heart that we all see the perfection that is on the way.

Yepp, the promise of an eternal afterlife in heaven, really easy to demonstrate. But hey, I was not the one who claimed that creation here was perfect.
