  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why do we worry when it doesn't help us?

The Bible says not to worry and yet alot of us fret about alot of things.

I constantly have financial challenges and every time something changes (again) my mind wants to worry or try to figure out a solution when I know it can't. I have no idea where I will be at the end of today, let alone 4 years from now or 2 months from now.

Lately I am CONSTANTLY reminding my mind that GOD is in control DON'T WORRY! It just proves to me more and more that just because we have a thought does NOT mean it is our own UNLESS WE CLAIM IT AS OURS by constantly mulling it over and over and over JMO

What do you think? Do you worry? WHY? And if you don't, how do you do that? Is it easy for you?

OK another thread by Michelle that people read but don't comment .... lol

I don't worry. Because .. what I would worry about wouldn't happen. Then I was concern about things, the situation ALLLL ways developed differently than I thought it might. I used to think about how I'd answer people if they asked me a question about something I did. No one EVERY asked me. So all that was wasted energy.

I think about God, the Bible, my GF, world issues, theology, what's the next step in remodeling my house and how I'm going to get the tenant out of the house who isn't paying. Other than that its day by day and what will be will be.

When we worry, we are "taking control" back from God. We assume that we are not important enough for Him to care about or that God is not big enough to solve our problems. However, we also often have bought into the American view that we "deserve" a happy life. God didn't promise that in this world...but we are promised that if we trust Him, that we can live a "joyful" life. We are promised a perfect life through Him...but that is not on this side of death of our humanly body.

Yes, I do find myself worrying at time, and I don't do as well as when I just sit back and just wait to see how God is going to get glory out of my hard times. If we are going to worry, it should be about how does our life bring honor to our Heavenly Father. This does not have to be in the big things or things that anyone else notices. God notices.

It seems that I am always worrying
But I guess it might be more accurate to say I worry about the same things off and on.
Then when I think back it seems like I have always done it.

Money is a big worry.
It is hard to realize you are never going to have a lot and to trust God is going to give you what you need.
Comparing to others is always hard with money or accomplishments.

I often worry about the health and safety of family members and pray that they are ok.

I worry that I am doing good enough at my job to keep it.

That I am a good enough man

This is also money in a way.
But also a desire to be a good enough for a mate.
Also a desire to be all that I can be for God though
And not squander his gifts.

I had for a long time accepted I would be single for life.
I never really liked the thought though
Recently I began to picture a life with a partner filled with love and joy and glory.
I got really excited about that.
Now I worry that opportunity is gone and God is done.

In reality it is no worse off than before I met her.
But it is more real and final it seems.

You are right that most of the time it is not worth the worry.
I do try hard to let the worry go and have faith in God.
It does not seem like I am very good at it, because I have the same worries
But really
I do not worry all the time, and I am successful at not worrying more than I worry I bet.

It is close though lol ;)

Lately I find myself in a battle with my mind. I KNOW in my HEART that I can trust God and He will take care of me and my needs. I KNOW He is trustworthy. But my mind wants to know the details. What about this? what about that? What if you do this? or that? And I have to keep REMINDING myself (my mind!) that GOD is in charge and GOD can and WILL take care of it if I seek Him daily and walk in His ways!

I understand this and you are not alone. My prayer often is "can get a tiny peek at where I will end up". Sadly, I haven't got that peek yet. LOL. I think God rewards the effort and forgives the weakness. Psalms is full of chapters where David had the same battle of learning to trust when circumstances seemed to point against him.

LOL yeah that's always been my "complaint" with God, "Just tell me how we are going to play this game or which plays we are going to use!" He never does of course but I can always see it looking backward.
And if you look at the Bible stories, they just had to pick up and start walking in some cases without a single clue where they were going let alone where they would end up. So he usually doesn't tell us ahead of time.....ever! I'm still learning this at my age, but I cannot lose because I will not quit. Hopefully I will get better at trusting and obeying Him. Also asking Him to guide me BEFORE instead of fixing what I've managed to screw up afterward would be helpful too.
