• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do we exist?

The wisest man in the Bible, King Solomon, said it well in Ecclesiates 12 verse 13 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandants: for this is the whole duty of man."

Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
Genesis 2:15 (NKJV)

Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air,
and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them.
And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
Genesis 2:19 (NIV)

Adam/man was to tend/keep what God had created here on Earth.
Adam/man was to name all living creatures that God had created.

Wonderful thread Caitlin! :thumbsup: I think the main purpose of our existence is to glorify God everyday, every way, in all that we do. Sorry I don't have a scripture reference because my bible is packed away. We're in the middle of moving but I'll have my bible unpacked out of the box in a few weeks. If anyone can help me out with a scripture, I would greatly appreciate it...thanks! :)

I was sent a cool power point, presenting the center (key) message in the Center (middle) of the Bible.
Basically this is what it says but If you want to see the beuty of the presentation, email me or PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.
This is pretty strange how it worked out this way.
Even if you are not religious, you should read this.

Q: What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?
A: Psalm 117
Q: What is the longest chapter in the Bible?
A: Psalm 119
Q: Which chapter is in the centre of the Bible?
A: Psalm 118
Facts: There are 594 chapters before Psalms 118.
There are 594 chapters after Psalms 118.
Add these numbers up and you get 1188.

Q: What is the centre verse in the Bible?
A: Psalm 118:8
Does this verse say something significant
about God's perfect will for our lives?

The next time someone says they would like to find
God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to
be in the centre of His will, just send them to the
centre of His Word!

Psalms 118:8 (NKJV)"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Now isn't that odd how this worked out… or was God in the centre of it?

Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.

Then they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly."
They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.

And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens;
let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language,
and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.

Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth;
and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

Genesis 11:1-9

From the story of the Tower of Babel we learn God did NOT intend man
to attempt to get to Heaven on their own.

We exist for the glory of God - I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." (Isa. 43:6,7)

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1Co 10:31)

We exist because God desired to have a relationship with his creation. God could have stopped at the point of creating all the vegetation and animals, but he wanted to do more.

"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;'"
Gen 1:26 NKJV

God wanted to make something in his creation that would be like Him, so it would be his children who he could nurture, share with, give the blessings to, and spend time with. We were also definitely created to take care of the things that God provided such as the garden and the animals (the whole world). But it seems like there is an intellectual and spiritual and creative side to us that God wanted us to share from His nature, so that we could have fellowship with him more intimately. I think of the passage where Adam and Eve running away from God as a very sad moment of broken fellowship for the first time:

"And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden."
Genesis 3:8 NKJV

You know - I never noticed the US and OUR in verse 26 before.
Very interesting - immediately suggesting the multifacets of God (trinity).

In the garden verse it speaks to DAILY fellowship with God.

I was going to make a thread on this topic but I'll just add to this instead. I am a thinker, when I say I think..I reallly think about things. Lately I had been thinking about my relationship with God and taking that comparing to my world and how I see it. I always wind up with the conclusion that there is more behind the fabric of society than what there appears to be. Sometimes when I'm out in the world I become so wrapped up in the nature and Spirit of God that I basically depart and leave it to be with fullness of God.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not referring to suicide or anything of that sort. I am overall happy person and have a lot of love for people, but I experiences in that area make all my experiences in this world and flesh rather small in comparison. What I want to point out to people is that there is no doubt in my mind that Spirit of God is present and exists. I don't know what it is with my situation or what God sees in me that I don't realize, but I've noticed it enough to find myself mentally separate and absent amongst a sea of people and concrete jungles and cars. Almost every step I take or thought I have has some connection in the universe.

I deeply respect and fear God because God is able work with me and help me with me with insight and problems of relating to my world and my flesh. What even makes this more bold is how the person next to me has no idea what I am experiencing. What even want to boldy point out is that I find myself wishing there were another human intelligence that could break this shell and enter my spiritual consciousness,but after some time,I realize that only God is able to do that to my satisfaction. I am deeply rooted in confidence that Jesus as a Savior will meet me in my physical death. That is all I know.

The Spirit searches all things, yea, even the deep things of God.

Psalms 100
Shout for joy to the LORD , all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Praise the LORD , O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field;
the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children's children-
with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
Praise the LORD , you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
Praise the LORD , all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
Praise the LORD , all his works everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD , O my soul.

Something hit me in my devotions today.
Since we are to be like Christ.
Then what his job and his disciples was is also ours.

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’?
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life,
so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.
Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.
I sent you to reap what you have not worked for.
Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor
John 4:34-38

Some of us will be sowers and some of us will be reapers.
