Why Do We Bother?

Anyone going into a debate or argument expecting to 'convert' the person he is arguing with is a fool at best.

But a true debate or the threads here have something often forgotten. Spectators!

Sometimes these spectators even step in and ask a question or make a point. But more often they just read. Some are set in hteir ways, others are learning and searching tfor truth or information or even entertainment.

These are the ones I hope to educate, inform or even entertain. It will be rare that I directly see the results. But I have faith that I make a difference.

Because I have a sick need to understand the mindset that can deny the obvious and can hold multiple conflicting ideas at the same time. I also like to check that I am not falling prey to any of the fallicies that they do.

We all know that science is wrong all the time, and constantly being refined. The bible on the other hand, is a static book (well not quite if you care for the history, but for such an important book, most christains do not know the history..). So it really comes down to whether we should trust in verifiable and repeatable expariments and the reasoning based on them, or if we should trust in a collection of stories writen by unknown authors several generations after the events they portray and then translated to many other languages with no context of the original writings.
