  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do they do it?

Dayton just made his first foray into the den of secular heathens and infidels. It's quite interesting. The regulars there have been treating him with kid gloves, but are beginning to suspect he's just trolling. I suspect he'll bail in a few days, after realizing that no one will bother to engage anyone whose only argument is "The Bible cannot be wrong , so you must be."

Take a look HERE

DAYTON UPDATE:

Well, I hate to tell you this, but I am leaving. It is fruitless to be involved in an argument with atheists that I can't possibly win, IMO. I'm going back to CF, and hopefully on to another Christian board, one with more Christians and less atheists.

Washington, :) THANKS! for the updates, VERY amusing. It is shocking he has not "saved any souls" ;)

I have never understood people who jump off the diving board without ever taking ONE swimming lesson! That boy can barely tread water, not to mention swim...but I will welcome him back with open arms to CF (rubbing hands together) :)

In all fairness, he posted this later in the same thread:

"Oh, I'll still read posts, but I won't post until I'm more educated on the subject."

There may be hope for him yet.

Is this a joke? Most of what we know, came AFTER this time and actually VERY recently. These were superstitious desert dwellers. Their thinking was VERY primitive. ;)

Some were very educated. Moses, Abraham, Ezekiel, Daniel, Paul all had top educations for their day. Moses was very well educated in Egypt, Abraham was very a very well educated Chaldean. The Chaldeans were very advanced at the time and the Egyptians learned from them.

But it was not what they learned from man that caused them to be so advanced. It was what they learned from God. Very few people today have obtained the understanding that they had.

Agreed. Moses, if he existed, had perhaps the finest education available. As the adopted son of a Pharaoh, he would have been well-versed in just about everything Egypt had to offer: Archetecture, astronomy, medicine, education, agriculture, law... Egypt was the dominant empire of the ancient world for good reason.

I'm not as familiar with the Chaldeans, but a quick web search talks mainly how they set up the second Babylonian Empire, from 605-550 BC, long after the Egyptians.

Obviously I'm missing something. Could you post a link?

This is true. I remember seeing a special on Imhotep on the History channel. Archeologists believe that Imhotep, who was not only an advisor, doctor, and archetect, but the high priest who oversaw mummification rituals, knew more about medicine than Hippocrates (considered the father of modern medicine) ever would, and thousands of years earlier, to boot.

But wait, this doesn't really support your statement, does it? Since Imhotep obviously didn't get any of his knowledge from the Judeo-Christian God...

That's interesting, because Japanese and Chinese medicine and so on has been more advanced that middle eastern and european medicine for an awfully long time.

How do you know where he got his knowledge?

Actually, if we look at the last 100 years. Exp if we look at Thomas Edison and his buddys Henry Ford & Harvey Firestonee. Look at the advances they made and how much it changed our world. Yet Edison was not considered to be much of a religious man, nor is it said that he even had a very good temperment. Yet the world is a vastly different place today, because of his contrabution and the work he did. Because so many people carried on the work that he started.

God does not want people who are lukewarm. You have to be in or out, hot or cold to be used by God. The people He has trouble with are the ones who flip flop back and forth, who are in and out, back and forth.

He didn't say where from, just that being an eygptian who was polytheistic it wouldn't have been from your 'God' if indeed from any god.

I've got a pretty good idea where he didn't get it:

He didn't pray to the Judeo-Christian God, since he was neither Jewish nor Christian. Egyptian, remember? He would have prayed to his Gods. Or does your God answer prayers not directed at him?

Not only was Imhotep associated with the Egyptian gods, he was eventually worshipped as a God. He was known as the "Son of Ptah" (the Egyptian god of craftsmen and creation), and...

"He was later even worshipped by the early Christians as one with Christ. The early Christians, it will be recalled, adapted to their use those pagan forms and persons whose influence through the ages had woven itself so powerfully into tradition that they could not omit them.
He was worshiped even in Greece where he was identified with their god of medicine, Aslepius. . He was honored by the Romans and the emperors Claudius and Tiberius had inscriptions praising Imhotep placed on the walls of their Egyptian temples. He even managed to find a place in Arab traditions, especially at Saqqara where his tomb is thought to be located."

So, seeing as how this man was a living violation of the first Commandment, would your God do him any favors?

Care to add Charles Darwin to that list? :)

Except that Imhotep, Edison, Ford, and Firestone were not "lukewarm." They were clearly against your version of God. Yet they still managed to do remarkable things.
How do they support whatever point you were trying to make here?

Yes, excellent points!! :) These early Christians I believe are the Coptic Church, still visible in Egypt today, Fly into Cairo and you will spot them at the airport, immediately. Imhotep has also been referred to as "The first Architect".
