I grew up with a Lutheran mother and a Catholic father. My mother's sister also married a Catholic, so my whole family has been in this division.
Eventually, I became Catholic, I love the Church, our way of worship and recognize the authority.
The difference, in my experience between Catholic worship and Evangelical worship is that anti-Catholicism is institutionalized in Evangelicalism while I have never ever heard a debate or an insult to protestants in a Mass. Oh, I am not stupid and know that there is always an exception to the rule. I am sure that on some radio programs or there are some priests out there that slam Evangelicalism... but those are not the norm.
But in protestant or Evangelical churhes... I have heard that my Church is a "dead church" and once I have been identified as a Catholic, there was no shortage of people approaching me in the protestant church ot recruit me, scorn me or my views, or insult. I have had protestant friends and even Mormans accompany me to Mass... this same treatment has never happened to them in my religious communities.
I would just like to say to the person who began this thread that the perception the protestants hate Catholics is because anti-Catholicism is institutionalized in Evangelicalism. One reason why is that the Catholic Church has been around for some 1500 years before any of the current protestant denominations have been around. Also, the Church had been the custodian of the Bible for all those years. These two facts alone, are very problematic both theologically and philosophically for protestants. That is why, while the Evangelicals read the Bible, it is very rare for one to have actually studied It's history. Neither the Jews, the custodians of the Old Testament nor the Catholics, the custodians of the New Testament, take the Bible literally but both see Scripture as inspired by Our Lord. The Fundmentalists take the Bible literally against the sources of It's orgin. That is a major reason for the institutionalized anti-Catholicism in Evangelism and Fundamentalism.
I hope this helps and I also hope the ensuing storm will benefit both sides of the division, here.
