Why do people write G-d?

Well nobody's listed why I sometimes do that. It's just too easy and too quick to type, and looking for the dash makes me stop and think if that's what I really mean. Kind of like a yamulka, I suppose, in the function it serves, like a reminder

I omit the O for two specific reasons. The first is simply my personal way of showing the utmost reverence and respect to the name of Adonia. His name is not to be taken lightly, either written or spoken, in my humble opinion. The second is because I have seen His holy name dragged through the muck of foul language so many times that it sickens me. I guess perhaps this is my feeble attempt of fighting against that. I don't expect anyone else to accept it or approve of it. I have already come up against opposition and chastised by other Christians for doing so. But I see nowhere in the Scriptures where such a practice is forbidden. However, there are plenty of Scriptures commanding that His name be used in reverence and not abused.

It's good, then, that "God" is not a name.

IF the Biblical God has a name, it's YHVH (and nobody knows how to pronounce that one correctly, anyway, as it's been taboo to say it aloud since time immemorial).

"What's wrong with spelling God with an 'o'?"

Nothing at all. But this or that "Religious group" can erect, and teach any silly "Custom" they want, and try to "Bind" their folks to it.

Fortunately there's never been a church system formed around Mark 9:43-48, which would be an excellent melding of "Religion" and "Surgical Medicine".

Do people who spell God G-D have bibles that have the same rendering? I've never seen one.
