(BTW I am new here, HI! ) anyway, I am wondering this and I really want to know what is up with all the hate??

If you want to not believe in god and our lord Jesus Christ then cool, don't but why try to disprove his existence AND hate anyone that does believe in him?

Why preach out against him and his followers if you do not believe???

Here is an example:

Mirecki had referred to religious conservatives as "fundies," and said a course describing intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face."

Now if you take that last part (in bold) it seems he loathes and hates us ChristiansA...but why??

I have a theory on this: True hardcore atheists are really people that hate God...sure they say they don't believe in him but I believe they do. They loathe the fact that something bad happened in their life and they are going to go out of their way to prove he doesn't exist OR they have such hatred in their hearts that they want other people not to believe.

Just my 2c

But if you have a better idea, please let me know.

BTW: here is the link to the story:

guess I cannot put it in here but it's in yahoo news, just do a search for this guy.

In my opinion, it is becasue we do not conform to todays standards. We have a Bible that gives us guidelines to live by. We believe in a God who loved us so much He gave His only begotten Son. Because we have a higher standard to which we live, we are despised by the world. We take a Biblical stance against things that the world says is "OK" and the Bible says it isn't. Because we live up to higher moral standards than others. They can't understand that I can live in this world, and yet not be of this world. Because we believe that there is something better waiting at the end of lifes journey other than a cold piece of ground. Those are some of the reasons.

We as believers shouldn't be shocked that people hate us. We stand for God and not for the world's way. Because of that we stand out and we are judged by these people. When I think of why people hate believers, I always fall back on these verses spoken by Jesus:

18"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. 22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. 23He who hates me hates my Father as well. 24If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'

We also need to remember who the real enemy is...Satan.

If they meet a Christian who is true to the faith, and brings the Truth of the Gospel to them, they hate the person. Why? Because that Christian just made them feel the conviction of their own sinful nature, period. Never feel bad when you are rejected, for we are never more like Jesus Christ and the Prophets than when we are hated for speaking the truth of the Gospel.

You know I never really understood it myself. I think people just don't like being told what to do and feel that everytime someone even says they are Christian they get an offended attitude. I knwo when my teacher tried sharing it with me it was not because of Jesus, I always believed in Jesus. I gave her a remark telling I didn't want to talk about it not because of the Christian Faith it was because I was afraid of dieing I didnt like talking about death. Maybe some people are just really afraid of death despite what they say and do not want to even hear about it. Then there are the ones who just do not want to be told to do anything or that there may be someone out there (like Jesus) who knows alot more than they do. I also know some people are miserable and Christians are taught to have high spirits in everything, anyway my point is Misery loves company. They want you to feel like poo with them so they try to tear down your happiness which than makes them happy. Wow! I hope I explained everything without brining you on a rollercoaster.. its almost 3am here.. sorry if I make no sense. God bless you all!! Love to you!! Merry Christmas Happy Holidays and Goodnight!! :)

Welcome to CF, enjoy your stay.

I hate to be the voice of dissent in the thread but....

A. Why are you asking Christians (this is the Christians Only section of the forum, maybe you did not realize) why people hate us? Do you not think you would get better answers from those who supposedly hate us?

B. I don't think that as a rule people do hate Christians. Are there some who do sure, just like there are people who hate everything and anything you can imagine.

People hate Muslims
People hate blacks
People hate whites
People hate Christians
People hate Catholics (those are mostly non-Catholic Christians :( )
People hate Arabs
People hate Irish
People hate dogs
People hate cats
People hate fat people

People hate. :sigh:

Are Christians any more hated than any other group, I doubt it, in fact probably less so.

People "hate" for a variety of reasons. Some are in that great conflict that results when they are busy rejecting God. Others I have to think it is because of the many injustuses that have been done "in Jesus' name." There are many very evil things done in this world by people who claim to be doing them because of God. It becomes relatively easy to confuse God with those who claim to be sent from him.

It is difficult and probably not helpful to stereotype those who "hate" Christians anymore than it is fair for them to stereotype Christians. Seems to me a lot of problems are caused by one stereotype shouting at another. Until you look past that and deal with them as individuals it is really difficult to have any real relationship.

Not defending Mirecki at all (I think he was out of line and counterproductive with his comments), but I think much of the anti-Christian backlash these days is directed toward what are viewed as the "religious conservatives" (indeed, that's what was referred to in your quote). It speaks to our country's current political climate, not necessarily a sentiment directed at Christianity, or God, in general.

I agree it has to do with the political climate towards us religous conservatives, but it's more than that it has to do with our society, certain parts of our society looking for escapegoat that they can attack but is large enough number people and amount infleunce it isn't taken serousily when they calm perscution.

Not sure I understand your whole post, but I do understand the concept of "scapegoating" in general. Referring back to the OP, Mirecki's comment had to do with an academic course in intelligent design (can't remember the details, heard about it on the radio) -- so I guess it isn't surprising that this exchange centered on religious rhetoric.

It's nice to imagine that the only reasons why unbelievers hate us is because we're so otherworldly and righteous and charitable and Christ-like. But the sad fact is that unbelievers often hate us because we're militantly ignorant, obnoxious, superstitious, self-righteous prats.

I guess that's why missionaries are often killed in the Phillipines, or could possibly be why Stephen was stoned, or Christ was crucified?

Usually, it is only certain types of Christians are disliked. Most of the time, it is well-deserved for their pompus, pushy piety, false intellectualism, persecution-complex (and thus usually cry out in pity under silly or wrong circumstances), and other malladies.

Of course, there'll always be true persecution, and there will always be those who point their fingers at all Christians. The best thing to do is to try to show how they are wrong without being preachy. If that doesn't work, then do as Jesus says: dust yourself off and leave them to be miserable.

I have been guilty of hating indivdual Christians and groups of Christians. To be honest I will more than likely do it again, because I am a sinner. I'm not a hateful person and don't enjoy that part of my personality. As I mature however, (my wife would say "you, mature") that I recognize that those who would hate me aren't hateful people either and more than likely not doing so intentional.

Food for thought.

I think Atheists hate us partly because our belief in a God we cannot see does not make sense to them, and when we humans are confronted with something that does not make sense to us we tend to ignore it or scorn it.

Actually Stephen would've been considered a real jerk in todays society. I mean he told serious religious muckity muck mucks that they were a stiff necked and sinful people. His religion was all up in their faces and they hated it. So was Jesus though. The view that Jesus was mild is not really accurate. When he smacked down, he smacked down hard, and he smacked down on the pharisees quite frequently. It would be like a blue collar working pastor or priest calling Billy Graham a Hippocrite and Viper, only it wouldn't be because Jesus was God and had authority, but to the religious leaders of his day that's all Jesus was...a blue collar carpentar turned rabbi calling attention to their imperfections.
Just a thought,
Slainte!
