  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Heya Alextg55,
God does not care if you stumble your words, just pour your heart out to your Heavenly Father, He wants to hear you not some prayer that someone else wrote. (thought they can be good for reading)

I found this page, don't know what is on the rest of the site though:

http://www.billbright.com/7steps/questions.html

Remember to the Holy Spirit is there to help you to pray:

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

NASB - Luke 18:10-14

Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: `God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.'

But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, `God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'

I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.

God doesn't want your flowery, elegant, perfect words. He wants you. In all your imperfection and sin.

There is nothing wrong with you! Everyone feels really bad when they sin - it's natural - we are disappointed with ourselves for what we've done. But the sometimes hard part is accepting God's grace even though we feel we don't deserve it. But that's what grace is, it's defined as 'undeserved favour from God.' So God keeps offering his hand to us every time we fall.

I am not a good prayer either. But Prayer can get much better than these.

Eph 3:14
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Eph 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Eph 3:18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

Eph 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him tobe the head over all things to the church,

Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.

:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

These things I ask in the name of Him that taught me to pray

Mat 6:9Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Mat 6:10Thy kingdom come. Thy wil lbe done in earth, as itis in heaven.

Mat 6:11Give us this day our daily bread.

Mat 6:12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Mat 6:13And lead us not into temptation, but deliverus from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. 11 For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter.

Do not worry about your words, what matters is your heart. Continue to seek God in humility and your ability to pray will grow exponentially.

God wants prayers from your heart not your head. Too many pray like the pharisees in the Bible that others can hear their words. Even in the times when you don't know exactly what to say God knows exactly what's on your heart.:)

How many times have you seen a young child stand there and make noises trying to ask for something in their own way the parent know exactly what the child wants/needs same way with our Heavenly Father. :angel:

Satan wants us to feel defeated in our prayer life. God doesn't always answer our prayers like we think they should be answered or in the time we think it should. Even when we don't see we are still to trust He has knows what's best.
You can see soo much in our relationship with our Heavenly Father like a parent/child relationship is. How many times as a child or we seen a child ask for something that wasn't good for them at the time or that they had to hear no even when they didn't understand the reason why the parent knew best same with our Heavenly Father.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I often feel like a child when I pray compared to others who have these elaborate prayers. I like to stick close to the Lord's prayer as a guide to how I should pray. Everybody has their own little way of praying. Sometimes all I can get out is "Help!".

When I sin...I feel awful. I know I have done something against God and have extreme guilt. I know that's the Holy Spirit working in me letting me know I've done something wrong. I always ask for forgivness and pray that God will give me the wisdom not to do it again.

Martin Luther's prayer styles were a huge help to me when I was learning to pray without stumbling...

He would take a passage of scripture and prayerfully meditate on it...and on average he was known to spend 10 hours a day in prayer...

take the Lord's prayer for instance...

"Our Father".... oh the praises and meditations of how He is our Father that can flow out of those 2 simple words...

"Who are in heaven" ... How He does truly reign on high! He is mighty and all powerful on His throne in heaven! How He sees the whole plan for His creation...even the smallest of creatures!

and from there...for quiet times with Him, it's always a start to meditate on His Word, and praise Him....

For more public prayers...well there's a formula that I learned back in elementary school...

1-Praise
2-thanks
3-forgiveness
4-petitions
5-praise

anyhow...I hope this helps
