  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do dogs do these things?

I think they do it for attention mostly! I've noticed my dogs doing that all the time with the clothes and the "nuzzling" me! My dog Chloe especially thinks she's being slick when she gets some sock or something of mine and then prances around me looking sweet, innocent and coy all at once! Like she's saying...I know...I'm not SUPPOSED to have this, but you'll definately notice me with it. Then when she gives me her cute little expression and drops it as soon as she fully gets my attention....I know she's got me right where she wants me.....wrapped around her four little paws!

Awwwww! Chloe sounds like a cutie. I know that look you mean. And does she flip her head away when you reach for the sock? My pet pooch Radar says, "You want this sock? Come chase me for it!" Are they trying to actually take possession of the items, I wonder? Is this a cute challenge? When Radar rests her hiney on my pack, is she saying, "My pack, WH!" Although she did try to hide my shoes when I was leaving for work one day, li'l stinker!

Hi

My pooch is kinda lazy and doesnt do any of those things exept, Milly like to lie right under ya feet and she wll sleep on my clothes or my wifes but generally on our couch, grrrrr

and she knows she not allowed and when i see her in the morning after i hear her jumping of the couch.
All i have to do is wave my index finger and she puts her head down then goes off to the bedroom.
Milly loves the beech, she runs around so fast, grunting and snorting and having fun untill she tires.
Just a humble dog i think lol

God Bless

Since animals can't speak the way people do, they communicate their feelings in various ways. My dog, for instance, when my back is turned, will go after my slippers and hide them so I can't find them. I think he enjoys watching me go crazy searching all over the house, while I look under the sofa, armachairs, under the beds, etc. It's just a game for him when he's in a playful mood. :)

I'm not the only one whose dog steals laundry? lol I think my dog steals clothes because they are 'toys' to him. His former owner letter him play with a sockball.

Copper doesn't sit on my personal effects, but he has been known to chew up pencils, shoes, socks, etc. For some reason he likes to sit at the head of my bed.

Whistle through their noses when they lick your hand
Jam their heads up underneath your chin and rub the tops of their heads under your chin

well the stealing socks part could be of boredom or maybe if they are dirty, dogs just like the smell of dirty stuff, might have to with the salt in sweat. As for the whistling through it's nose, might be wheezing and the head under your chin is the dog just being affectionate

Hey, I'd just pay real money for my nearly 6-month-old chocolate lab to fully understand housebreaking! There's a flickering, sputtering flame of a clue, but dang, our golden had potty down pat at 4 months!

:sigh:
Re: housebreaking your Choc Lab --

Did you move since your Golden was trained? Take on a job or project that leaves your CL home alone more often? Decide not to use a Vari-Kennel? Each of these things has had an impact on training our CFs (Canine Friends).

Our mixed breed pup is coming along really well -- far better than our other two! I credit it to those three things. We're in a home with a straight-down-the-middle view, not like the last house, where halls & thoroughfares circled around & pets could easily disappear. We also have an elevated, fenced porch with a gate, so I can literally check to see if he's voided before I left him back in. He's in a small Vari-kennel between meal/drink/play/voiding periods -- not big enough to assuage my guilt, but more importantly, not big enough to position himself to potty! Good fortune to you.
