Why do Christians hate Wicca(Witchcraft)?

lance - if i may be so bold...why are you using one religion to combat another religion? i'm thinking *and i may be wrong* that as rae is not a christian she will not be convinced by christian writings. i am in agreement with seebs regarding understanding of pagan/wiccan religions. take it from practioners.

I just have to say, there's a grave error in saying "every chief goddess worshipped is the same"; it's the same error that people would make if they said "oh, the Christians just like to use the word God to refer to Odin, since He's the head of the gods; it's the same thing, they just believe in a chief God".

I am not convinced that these goddesses are, indeed, the same things at all.

As to the rest, I think you're overgeneralizing and drawing conclusions from insufficient data.

Well, when someone tells lies about my faith, of course I get angry! Would you get angry if I recommended a book which said that Christians all eat babies? Come on...if you promote a book which lies about me and promotes majority hatred of me, of course I'll get angry about it. Don't give me this "I don't know why you're upset" nonsense. If you really were a Wiccan, you know Wiccans don't do what Schnoebelen claims. You should know better than to promote lies and hatred against another faith than your own, no matter how much you dislike my faith (though I repeat again, I'm not a Wiccan).

Nice assertions without evidence, by the way, Lance. No evidence that demons are the Gods that Pagans worship, no evidence that our modern day spiritual practices are the ones warned against in the Bible, just random Bible verses and prejudice coming out.

Apparently, Lance hates Paganism because he believes his religion requires him to. Fine, Lance. Just don't spread your hatred to others. I'd like to be able to keep my job, any children I bear, and the right to run a business related to my faith...all things that Pagans in this country have been denied due to hatemongering like yours.

Of course I'm not convinced by random Bible verses, Feral. For one thing, I'm not convinced they must mean what Lance says they do. I've heard from others who have studied them and believe they referred to a very specific group of people at a specific time in Jewish history. Second, the Bible is, in my eyes, a flawed human creation that mostly gets God(s) horribly wrong. Third, the immoralities of the Bible's God and Bible's "faithful" convince me that it can't be right about much that it spouts off about.

Lance is just letting his prejudice against my religion dictate his reaction to it. Many Christians do not spread hatred against Pagans and Paganism and see no need to. I hope someday Lance will join them.

I believe anyone who doesn't accept Jesus as Savior and accept the fact that he is the Son of the only True God will go to hell. I know a lot of you don't believe in Hell and a Satan. I was in the same boat. That doesn't mean it isn't true. I commend you Rae on your dedication to your faith. It is hard to find people with a strong conviction as yours. I have said everything possible on this thread. I have faith in my beliefs as well and know through my God that I need to try and reach out to others with the truth, as I see it.

When our friends here (the pagan hating christians) go up to heaven, and meet god, they may say, "I did what you asked, I stayed away from sinfull witchcraft and I shunned and hated it." Jesus might then say " You mean you didnt love your neighbor, etc" They would say, "well, um, no."

So in that case, they may be seeing us, the evil heathen, in hell. Of course they wont want to join in on one of our ritual orgies in a lake of fire, because, you know thats what us pagans do.

Once again I will say I don't hate any person. I can hate the sin and I believe if you practice Wicca you are sinning against the Lord. And again that is from a Christian perspective.

You are hating if you're spreading lies about another's faith. You are spreading lies about my faith. Sorry, Lance. No religious belief excuses lying about Paganism in order to make Christianity look good. Schnoebelen is a known liar, like his friend Jack Chick. By supporting him, you support hatred and discrimination against Pagans. Deal with it.

I'm a Wiccan among other things and I don't see why you guys are geting so upset with Lance. It may not be nice, loving, or politicaly correct, however if he's going to follow the teachings of his Bible then all other religions are false and the work of the Devil. I disagree with Christans and the Bible on this issue, so quoting the Bible is of no use.  The only thing that is going to hold any water at all is personal experiance.  As for the lies being spread by some people who call themselves Chistians about our and other religions they are in the long run simply encouraging people to lose faith in thier own religion. You remember of course that maxim about how you reap what you sow.

Now Lance I've often wondered if people like Jack Chick weren't actually Athiests who had it in for the Christian church, by spreading what are (once someone actually takes a little time to investigate on thier own) obviouse lies about Wicca and Pagan religions they are causeing alot of Christians to relook everything they had previously simply accepted on faith.

Let's look at it from a differant perspective. You grow up Pagan and your Church tell you that Christians are really Canibles and that they eat Human flesh and drink blood in thier rituals. Now let's say you took the time to actually find out what Christians really believed, and how differant it was from the lies that your Pagan Church had been telling you.... You might even be inclined after something like that to leave your Pagan church and become agnostic or perhaps even a Christian.

If Christians want to discuss other faiths, it is most definately to thier advantage to understand what members of that faith really believe, if you don't understand thier cosmology you are going to have a hard time witnessing to them. Image a Muslim missionary that came up to you and tried to convert you from Christianity into Islam, now imagine this Muslim missionary had no clue or understanding about what Christians really believed and instead had been fed a pack of lies about Christianity by people who hated Christianity but who didn't really understand it.

The odds of you converting that Muslim to Christianity are 10 to 1 in favor of him converting you to Islam. It doesn't take a social scientist to figure that out, and yet Christians make the same stupid mistake day after day.

So, the God you believe in makes a majority of people with absolutely no way for them to avoid Hell, and likes Europeans way better than Asians, most of whom have been condemned to Hell without any chance at salvation, and Abraham went straight to Hell for his faith, since he never even *heard* of Jesus?

lance...saying that you hate "the sin" of witchcraft isn't doing much to help your own cause. if you really wanted someone to convert to christianity you would want to tell them the benefits of your religion and discuss your views with them openly...not concentrate on how badly they've messed up. if you truly believe wiccans or pagans are sinners why would you want to make christianity sound so offensive? being hostile against a faith won't win converts.
also...if you were once a real wiccan, wouldn't you know that the acts performed by members of that faith are much different then the rumors promoted in biased books? i'm surprised you bothered to post lies...if you really know the truth..

i have witches in my family down the line, it seems like half my family goes towards being christians and the other half goes towards being witches. And quite frankly we dont have any good witches. I am christian but I have been called by other Christians a witch, which leads me as a Christian to believe that some people are just ignorant and are scared of things they have never coem into contact before. I have met/talked to a few wiccans and quite frankly they tend to think that I am Wiccan too, I'm not though my family simply has odd gifts that some Christians take as being witchcraft. It's hard to explain to people the difference, and i've since stopped trying, if God wants them to understand then I suppose He will give them insight. I dont know i try not to let it bother me, i was raised in the church, i love God and always have, theres never really been another way that I've wanted to go. I don't think that all "witches" are evil or anything, the ones in my family tend to be though, and i know for a fact that theyve caused the death of some of their own family members. It seems like this is different from Wicca though, the ones i've met are very nice people, don't have a mean bone in their bodies, but still in every religion there are those who corrupt and change things in evil ways.

I was thinking, Christianity seems to have quite a few parallels with Vampirism.

If I walked around claiming christianity was really all about vampirism, I wonder how many christians (that produce false info about wicca) would be mad about me saying false things about christianity and miss representing it. They would probably say I should be going to hell. Yet it seems to be fine (in their minds) for them to spew false information about wicca.

Actually I'm not trying to convert anyone. And this thread has to do with why Christians hate Wicca/Witchcraft. Converting is between you and God. My job as a Christian is to speak Gods truth. I've done that here and like I said before I'm done posting on this thread. Now if you want to start a different one then I'll be happy to continue sharing Gods word with you.

So God's word is all lies about my religion? Wow. I had thought that Christians believed their God spoke truth. I guess your particular sect of Christianity thinks God can speak lies about other religions. I'm sorry for you.

Well, unfortunately, Aaron, all you have is your opinion backing that up and/or conservative Christian opinion. So I doubt the Wicca chick will find your statement persuasive, as most Wiccans and Pagans I know of don't find "But the Bible says" or "But without Jesus" indicative of anything but your belief.

However, as long as you aren't trying to tell lies about Pagan religions in the name of yours, I imagine we can get along, at least.

Obviously I wouldn't feel that it is "just my opinion", but I understand that is what you feel. But it would be a little foolish to say that all Christians hate Wiccans. I just think it would be more intelligent to realize that it is inherent to disagree with Wicca if one is in Christ.
