  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, my ideas about scientists are that they are able to do just about anything to get funded. It's the truth.
You are doing it again.

You are simply re stating your position.

I know YOU think it the truth but you have yet to explain why you think it is the truth and what basis you base that conclusion on.

Prove it.

Again, we are back to the issue of you making a claim that feels to you oh so true and obvious and why can't other people understand but the fact of the matter is that in all of the the threads you feel compelled to make you have provided no persuasive rationale to support your position.

Look, google is certainly not the be all and end all of research but you appear to have done no research (that you have mentioned on these threads) at all.

What is the reader to make of your position if the only thing you can do when asked for evidence is to re assert your position?

It is not easy to have one cherished beliefs dismissed seemily out of hand but on the internet the world of competing ideas is like the Wild West: if you can't support your ideas they WILL get ran out of town.

It's not nice, it's not appreciated but it IS what will happen.

No, it won't happen...you know why? Because you cannot but keep replying to these posts and these threads. For the reasons we all know. Again, had I googled I would have found plenty examples of doubtful examples of science funding. I'll leave the googling for the examples to someone else.

I thought you said you would google it, in the other thread?

Why do atheists object theism?

If you're asking why I'm an atheist, it's because I don't accept belief in the existence of gods as rationally justified, as none of the evidence I've been presented with has overcome my skepticism of the 'some god exists' claim.

If you're asking why I dislike belief in gods, it's because I think that some theistic belief sets can lead people to belief things that aren't true and also to actions that don't necessarily improve general welfare or minimise harm.

I don't really object to theism though. I think people should be free to believe what they want to believe, even if that thing is nonsensical or objectionable to me.

However, what I do object to is theistic beliefs that impose/impinge on the rights and or freedoms of others. For example, opposition to same-sex marriage means that a portion of society is disadvantaged/doesn't receive the same benefits compared to opposite sex married couples, because a portion of society has a certain set of religious beliefs.

Non-religious objections to same-sex marriage are tenuous, at best.

How do you explain the one's that aren't atheists? A girl I used to know was a PhD in Biology and a devout Christian.

How do you explain her existence?

With a no-true-scottsman fallacy? :)

Why do atheists object theism?
That's called Begging the Question, when you assume the answer in the form of a question. For a proper debate, and a less irritating one, you should have asked, "Do atheists object to theism? If so, why?"

Each of your threads there seem to be framed in the same manner, with the question assuming a fact not agreed upon by the subject of the question itself.
