I think he is wanting to know why do atheists reject religion (not just theism). I could play devil's advocate here since I have several reasons but I'll let the atheists/agnostics reply in full.

Obvious, I would think. Atheists reject deities and all religions as being manmade and fabricated and also used to control the masses (maybe not all atheists, not wanting to whitewash or generalize).

Some religions don't require a belief in deities certain sects of Buddhism for example. I think your thinking more anti-theism rather then atheism, but I also think your just trying to ask "why do you lack a belief in deities" that sound about right?

Buddhism is more a philosophy than a religion. No governing holy text, or god, but more about achieving inner peace. But I could be wront, don't know a whole lot about Buddhism.

Okay I lack a belief in any deity because I can't find a good reason to believe in any deities.

Buddhism is more a philosophy than a religion. No governing holy text, or god, but more about achieving inner peace. But I could be wront, don't know a whole lot about Buddhism.

I lack a belief in any deity because I see no evidence of a deity existing, and I find the huge number of religions, interpretations and available deities confusing. I feel that if there was one all powerful deity who was in control and influenced humanity, then there would be only one religion. The fact there are so many religions world wide leads me to believe that they are manufactured by humankind because of an innate desire for there to be "something more" than the life we live on earth.

You're assuming a lot with this question. Not all atheists do object to theism. I've heard some say they would love to believe. Plenty have no problem with other people believing. I would say that there are a lot of atheists that personally object to believing in theism because for whatever reason, they simply don't/can't conceive of/have no personal experience to convince them of there being any gods/deities.

I'd have to disagree. Your point would be more sound if an atheist saw any of the various religions as legitimate competition as an idea.

You don't see the worship of Enki as a legitimate challenge to your God, do you?
