Why didn't Jesus perform miracles?

MikeMcK...I really didn't come here to debate people, as you obviously have. I am not here to tell you I think your views are wrong. Say whatever you want that makes you feel better, but I am done responding to you.

OK. That's certainly up to you.

You seem to be awfully brave when making the accusation. Shame you can't show the same courage when asked to back it up.

I'm not trying to base my original statement on what I see on tv, I am saying that they fake miracles every day. Why couldn't Christ have faked them as well?

My point with the "moving a mountain" miracle was, if there was geographical evidence that a mountain in Israel existed, then Jesus moved it to Egypt, that would've been substantial proof of his power and divinity.
What previous geographical information would you accept that the mountain existed in Israel to begin with? Would you accept maps made circa 100 BC? Would you accept the eye witness accounts that it happened? Maybe documents from Egypt that describe a mountain simply appearing?

Or would you, as I've heard many do, discount these as the accounts of those who believed in magic?

using the Bible to prove the Bible doesn't help me.
What of the works of Josephus (not a Christian)?
Do you believe any of the Bible is true? They've found archaelogical evidence of mentions of King David, mentions of battles (from the other countries involved), ruins of the cities Solomon set up. Can you believe those things happened?

but I can't consider the bible valid because of the obvious bias it has. the people who wrote it wrote it explicitely in favor of what they believed, and without facts to back it up. I treat the bible like any other book. The idea that it is "divinely inspired" holds no weight in my mind, so I cant simply take it's word for it.
I'm sorry. Did you expect them to cite references to works of the day from those who did not witness what they did?
Once again, there are outside sources (such as the works of Josephus) that mention the existence of Jesus and His works. Have you investigated them? Or is there some reason you discount those, too?

my belief in god, if you want to call it that, is pretty personal, and I do not base it on the Bible. I do not discount the Bible as useless, because there are many good lessons to be learned there.

as far as historical accuracy is concerned, no I am not convinced that it is historically accurate. However, I have not read this book of Josephus so I thank you for birnging it to my attention and I'll have a look at it.

I'm interested in the fact that you don't believe the Bible to be historically accurate. There have been archaeological finds that prove incidents in Scripture (there is a tablet found in Iraq or Iran chronicling the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem, among others). Thus, at least part of the Bible is historically accurate.
If you're interested in this facet, I believe there is a forum here called Biblical Archaeology. You would be able to view and post questions only, as a non-Christian, but you might find it interesting.
