Why did the temple of Jerusalem get destroyed?

Need this information for a school project, since I can't find the answer. The temple of Solomon & the temple of Herod, why did they get destroyed?

By the way, I would also really appreciate it if someone could answer this question for me: Who worked in the temple, and what did they do?

Are you looking for the political reasons, or the spiritual reasons? If you ask for the spiritual reasons you are going to bombarded with Christian theology. Everyone has their own take on that.

Political reasons are less subject to abstraction.
