Why did the snake entice Eve first but not Adam?

I always thought that Eve was alone. I also find it interesting as to why Adam is cursed:

Genesis 3:17King James Version (KJV)
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife,

Basically... because he listened to his wife. Kinda made me chuckle.

Because Adam actually received the dictation from God before Eve came into being. Genesis 2:16-23. This makes me think that Eve was taught by Adam and that Adam may have taught Eve incorrectly. Just a theory.

Ya, to me, it's all speculation. She certainly didn't remember is well though. Adam, still, had the command from the source and has no excuse either. Where Eve thought they couldn't even touch it or didn't call it by it's name.... she still had the concept right... they weren't to eat... they both had that part right and did it anyway...

I believe it was the part where the snake said they would become like God and know everything.

But, all speculation . The Bible isn't clear why the snake talked to her. Betting it was because she was blonde.......

God determined that Adam made an informed and conscious decision to listen to his wife instead of Him.

Kind of reminds me of the self same consistent God who said.......

"Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:37)

You can also add....

Anyone who loves their husband or wife more than me is not worthy of me.

Usually a person obey's a person who he/she has much adoration, love and respect to.

In the case of Adam God was placed second after Eve, showing that his love for Eve placed her above the love of God and so Adam sided with Eve against God by obeying Eve and disobeying God.

What's interesting is that Eve eats it and nothing changes, but Adam eat it and then their eyes are opened. Genesis 3:6-7

This theory is not tenable because of the dialogue between Eve and Satan.....

Satan said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?"

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden" but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

Eve was well informed of what God had said and knew the consequences, however she made a conscious decision to listen to Satan and try to sell the LIE to Adam, who took it hook, line and sinker.

Me myself and I. I am no theologian by any stretch. But I trust God that what we have is God Breathed. I don't think we have any false books in. There are very sensible criteria that are used to establish which ones are canon and which ones aren't.

I do not think that means that none of the books should have not been lost. We already know of at least 2-3 books of the Bible that are no longer with us. These are books mentioned in scripture.
I don't know if the Book of Enoch they found amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls is THE book of Enoch, but it dates to about a hundred years give or take prior to Christ. And it carried enough weight for Jesus to quote from it.

I don't want anyone to get confused. I am not making a judgment on the Book of Enoch or any other work found amongst the Dead Sea scrolls. I peruse it more as a curiosity. I would never take the chance of using it for doctrine. Best to be safe and stick with what we know. What the Early Christian Fathers who were closest to the events decided.
Perhaps if they had had a copy, they would have accepted the Book of Enoch. But the Jews didn't even accept it, so I don't know... you know?

Almost a blind post. Please forgive me if this has already been said.

Just a guess, from what I gather of the reading. Adam and God had the full conversation before Eve was created. Then Adam, I presume, passed it along to her second-hand. When Eve told the serpent what God had said, by then it was third-hand. She added "neither shall we touch it," which was never in the original conversation. Ever play that old game of "telephone" as a child? That's what I think happened. And because Eve wasn't there to hear the original decree, it would make more sense that she was the one most likely to doubt what was actually said and done and meant.

"and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Now to say Adam was not temped or did not give in is not true. Says to her husband with her. A he could have spoken up any time. Adam said "The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat."

It is written "with her". Adam knew what tree this fruit came from and ate it. "she gave me OF THE TREE and I did eat. See EVERY word spoken from when Adam was made till this moment..is not written. Everything Jesus did.. as it is written I dont think there are enough books to hold it all. God just wrote down JUST what we needed. After this life we can go read see it.. will be awesome.

so the story goes but you see
that snake was he
she just climbed right up his tree

evil came like rainin'
who knows who's to blamin'
something tried to lay her to waste
and all she want and need was just a little taste..

Makes me chortle a bit too. However neither Adam or Eve were cursed according to the story.

A lot of profound truth there. Without having eaten of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil the first couple were incapable of sin. Of making a mistake? Certainly! Of sinning? Only after eating of the tree.

I don't think that God, who is love, created man and woman to be in conflict. He created us to be compatible with one another. But in this world, where good and evil coexist, and especially in the end times, conflict is a consequence. Current state of affairs between men and women around the world has a lot to do with the point in time we are at.

In my lifetime I have seen a vast improvement in the status of women not only in the Western world but in both the second and third worlds as well. Still much room for improvement but it is more hopeful now than at any time since first century Christianity.

And you were witnessing how women were treated around the world from AD 100 untill now? Even if you are historian, you would have a challenge to get a picture about everyday life througout history, especially outside bigger centers.

You think men didn't know how to treat women until they were educated on mass scale by governments or mainstream media about good behaviour? If you believe men are so corrupted, or lowly, then women can't be much better either, as we are sides of the same coin.

But maybe you just want to keep your eyes shut, for some reason. Divorce rates nowdays are, basically, highest, and climbing. Half of all marriages end with divorce. It's emotionaly draining for adults, while it's one of the worst things that can happen to a child. Among prison population, highest percentage of prisoners or something like that comes from one-parent households.

Here's a man hundred years ago painting women. Oh, he is so primitive and disrespectful. He doesn't know about liberated Miley Cyrus and her tongue.

The Hebrew and Greek word "with" is mostly used to describe "in support of" or "in agreement" the opposite of being "against the person" and does not have to mean "in close proximity". This could also mean they had had sex together by this time. The "with" in this passage may have been inserted to show they had become "one" and were really together on everything by this time. This might also explain why Adam ate the fruit Eve gave him (he could not live without her by this time), his love for Eve was greater than his Love for God so like Romeo he wanted to go where ever she was going.

I think it is likely because women are more curious about learning new things (in this case, a bad thing.) Men, on the other hand, tend to think they already know it all.
