I find people who justify themselves against high-school standard referencing humorous. Occupation hazard: I was a professor


1. If you practice scholarly referencing, I guarantee it will sharpen your analytical thinking.

2. It is not just for me. Others who read your posts will appreciate your proper referencing and logic.

It is up to you whether you do it or not. Do you value points 1 and 2?

Please don't assume that I'm "justifying myself against high-school referencing standards". This isn't the case!

I can tell you were a professor and it seems like the prowess has gone to your head, making you think everyone who engages with you is your student.

I think I articulated my logic pretty well in my article, but you wouldn't know that unless you've read it. Chances are you've read plenty of material that doesn't use the referencing standards you're so adamant about. If you only value work that incorporates these standards then you're missing out on a treasure trove of knowledge!

If I may butt in and involve myself in someone else’s conflict, I would point out that you both are very insightful people and have a lot to contribute to this forum.

We each have a sense of propriety and how things should be done. When these collide with another poster’s methods, feathers can be ruffled.

Maybe we can all agree to disagree?

I think we can both agree with @KevinT! Even though I've been in my share of online debates, it's a waste of our time to go back and forth like this. Admittingly, I grew interested in entertaining it, which is why I continued to engage.

But to answer you question, what I value is being able to strengthen and encourage other's faith so that we can become more like Jesus. I'm not stringent on holding myself to silly referencing standards because I find them to be troublesome and widely unnecessary. If people choose not to find value in my work simply because of a technicality such as not using a high-school referencing standard, that's on them. They're limiting their scope of knowledge and missing out on new insight. And there's nothing I can do about that.
