So it's said that the Big Bang could not have happened without the divine intervention of the Christian God. This is primarily because the universe allegedly could not be created from 'nothing'.

some questions:

Who created God in the beginning?

Why did God create the universe and make it so cosmically large and uninhabitable? And for what purpose were humans actually put on this Earth in the beginning?

I don't believe God was created the way we would even imagine. The Bible says right now we see things as in a dim mirror, but later, we will see all. So that kind of question may need to wait til then, we should make sure we can survive death, He gives us hope of life after if we follow and know Jesus, the perfect sacrifice for sins, the punishment for sins is death, but He offers hope beyond.
Why did God create the universe and make it so cosmically large and uninhabitable?
maybe for our own humility, to show us we aren't all that, we are actually tiny compared to Him.
And for what purpose were humans actually put on this Earth in the beginning?
to fellowship with God, for love. we can still have that relationship with Him, if we let Him deal with our sins on His terms, it is a blessing

God has no beginning. We don't really understand that too well, because we think of everything in terms of having a beginning and end.

Although some seem able to accept more easily something that had a beginning but will have no end (eternal), which is kind of weird.

Hi, thanks for your questions.

On most I can't think offhand of particular scripture which speaks to why God put us on earth. There may be scripture on that or may not be.

And when I think of the universe or all there is, it's infinite. There can be no end in my understanding.

God is known as Father, Jesus (Son), Holy Spirit

There is One God. Commonly said in 3 persons. Also commonly known as the Trinity.

God was not created but always existed, always was, and always will be.

Jesus left the glory of heaven to be born of a virgin, and and grew, learned, taught, healed, forgave, peformed miracles, did much more, and chose those who would start the church, and as preached people become part of the church, which is called the body (all believers), the bride of Christ.

All of us have done wrong (sinned), and due to sin, which at creation in the beginning while Adam and Eve walked with God, when they sinned, there was a death, a death in the relationship between God and them, and spiritual death, known as being blind or in darkness in this world, and dead, prior to being reconciled to God, and bodily death, though they did not phyically die when they sinned. More occurred do to the sin of Adam and Eve.

So we are separated from God, we are sinners, we do wrong, and also going on is there is a fallen angel satan who sinned long ago, and are slaves to sin (we serve sin, again unawares most to all times) and is called the ruler of this world, and it is said we are slaves to satan (unawares of course) and that satan is a liar, deciever and murderer.

satan seeks to destroy and to keep people from God.

After Jesus did the many things some listed above, He willingly died on the cross, his blood shed for us, and in doing such, he payed for the sins of the world, for all. He didn't stay in the grave, He was resurrected, He arose from the grave, and so we too know, we wil be resurrected.

As we are all in the state mentioned above, we learn in the bible that to be reconciled to God, to be forgiven our sins, to be free from slavery to sin, from slavery to satan that we can do so by having faith in Jesus that he died for our sins and was resurrected. Trusting him with our lives, committing our lives to Christ.

Much occurs to us when we do come to Christ through faith. We are no longer spiritually dead, we are alive, we are born again, we are a new creation, the Holy Spirit (God) indwells us, there is much much more which occurs as we give our lives to God.

While we then have been forgiven all our sin, we do still sin as Christians as no one is sinless but God, and Jesus being God was sinless.

But we now have God in us and helping us and we have the bible to change our minds as we grow and learn and we follow Christ, doing as He did, and again, not perfectly, but we strive to do as we are commanded.

We know, as we are told we will face many struggles and suffer in this world (which non believers also do), but Christians will struggle and suffer as followers of Christ, and we face each challenge and now God being with us, in us, we are able to face each day and the bible gives us much help, and we are here to glorify God, to lead others to Jesus, and to live a life for Christ, dying to ourselves, and putting on Jesus, walking as He did, the way He dealt and lived through things when He walked the earth.

It is an awesome thing to know the Lord, or rather be known by God. We are honored to serve God and be used by God.

well much more.

just thought I'd share some things as wasn't able to answer your other questions right now.. and above is just a small portion about Jesus and some of what occurs with us.

blessings,
tapero

I don't agree with that logic but...
some questions:

God always has been.

Why did God create the universe and make it so cosmically large and uninhabitable?
He is an extravagant God.

And for what purpose were humans actually put on this Earth in the beginning?
To be God's image bearers in creation. To rule it, guide it, look after it and bring it to its full glory.

Some Scripture

Psalm 90;1 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst fromed the earth and the world. even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.

Rev. 4:11 Thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou has created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth His handiwork.

Isaiah 43:7 ..I have created him for My glory...

There are many Scripture references that tell us God is from eternity - He always has been and always will be.
And He has created all things for His own glory.

I wonder, though, what was God doing before he/she created the universe? twiddling thumbs for millenia? Could a universe had possibly been developed before ours, and destroyed by some force, and therefore God had to create another, better one?

If God is eternal (which is an unquestionable amount of time) would he/she have created the universe for a bit of fun? to relieve boredom? as some sort of sick little game because he/she has been bound by nothingness for...only God knows how long?

Please don't see this as a threat, I am merely curious as to how it began.

In the beginning God was already.

The vastness of the universe confounds the wise. We search the universe for God but His throne is in heaven, the spiritual and real realm.

We are here to seek God, and He has shown us the way to Him.

Time is a property of creation itself - there is no such thing as time outside of creation. Time begins with the start of the universe. (That's physics, not theology.) Consequently it doesn't make sense to talk about God being bored before then or anything of that ilk.

Could a universe had possibly been developed before ours, and destroyed by some force, and therefore God had to create another, better one?
God doesn't make rubbish.

If God is eternal (which is an unquestionable amount of time)
When we talk about God being eternal we aren't really talking about him being around for an infinite amount of time but about him being bigger than time itself.

God creates because that is the outpouring of his love. God is at heart a loving an relational being (that's what Trinity is all about - perfect relationship is right at the heart of God).

God doesn't tell us about what you are asking to my knowledge.

Perhaps when we are with Him He may tell us the answer to the questions you asked. They are very good questions.

Where you say sick little games, God is not sick and I know that at this time you do not see yet who God is.

One thing about God I'd like to share is that when God created you and to this day and all your days to come, He has loved you more than you can dream or imagine.

take care,
tapero

Hi talkingmonkey,

Hmm, well not really. I don't think you can draw lines to the Christian God for that first spark of creation, but you can certainly draw lines to an intelligent designer.

Who created God in the beginning?
God is eternal and has always been. So the answer there is: no one created God.

Why did God create the universe and make it so cosmically large and uninhabitable? And for what purpose were humans actually put on this Earth in the beginning?
In order for our planet to sustain this quality of life, the universe has to be it's exact size, with it's exact makeup. Else our planet would be shadowed with thermal radiation, if indeed it existed at all. The chances of our universe existing at all, is 1 in 10 to the 120th power. (that's a 1 with 120 zeros following it). It's quite a small chance, if not impossible. There are some interesting articles on this if you wish, let me know.

Cheers!

Yes I have actually read a lot on the development of the universe.

The universe all came down to pure chance that the correct bunch of chemicals mixed and then expanded over time. Our system is carbon based, and happened to result to carbon base through billions of years of chemical exchange and update. It just so happened that in our solar system (milky way) all the attributes for the most simple life form to start was Earth. Before Earth solidified, it was a mass of molten rock and gases (about 3.5 billion years ago - much like other planets in our system are now). As the Earth began to cool, rock formed and so did atmosphere through chemical change. Small single celled-organisms began to develop near thermal vents underwater (which actually still thrive). Over billions of years, through chance of chemical bonds and environmental factors, our system of organisms soon became more advanced and had to adapt to the ever changing environment.

Our universe is ever expanding, making it colder as it expands. This gives way to much universal change and development of solar systems and galaxies.

within our solar system, the Sun is heating up at an exponential rate through Nuclear Fusion. Because of this, our solar system is heating up (one of the main problems with global warming - not just human interference). Luckily though, through the theories of thermo dynamics, a lot of the emitted heat from the sun is being sucked out of our galaxy and into the rest of the solar system. Same principle as warm air clashing with cold air, and the cold air drags the hot air into itself and develops into turbulence.

So, because of constant change in our system and others, organisms must constantly change to adapt to the new environment, otherwise everything would perish.

On another note, imagine if the Earth, over time, developed into a silicone based world and not carbon based... what would it be like?

p.s. Digit, I like your approach to the chance-related universe of organisms. :)

Pretty crappy for the carbon-based lifeforms! :D

Digit,

May I have the links to some of your articles that you have on Earth/ Universe history?

cheers!

Hi talkingmonkey,

Sure thing, my internet plan is currently shaped at the moment - not sure if you know what that means, but in Australia you can only download a set amount, and then you download speeds get capped almost to that of dialup - which is making surfing painful. I go onto a new plan tomorrow though, and then I will get you links to things of interest. ;)

So just bear with me for a day.

Cheers!

Hey Talkingmonkey,

Apologies for the delay, I have a new internet plan today... and I game I was looking forward too didn't get released (I was hoping to get it from Steam) so that sucked.

Anyhoo...

This is directly related to your OP - Why did God create such a vast universe?

A few notes about the order of creation in the Bible and a popular theory of creation, the Big Bang.

Details on the anthropic principle, this just talks about the narrow range of universal constants.

The cosmological argument for God.

This site has tons of info, so I've just linked directly to the source, and you can sift your way through, be prepared to spend time on here reading lots of stuff. :)

Here is a link to a search of the TalkOrigins archive with the keyword "universe". This is a site that generally details with Creation vs Evolution, I don't think it's Christian friendly, but then you never learn about 'the other side' if you don't go there. :)

Here is a blog link to a group-run blog of astronomists and physicists. It's quite easy reading for the most part.

I think that's a good start. I was looking for an article just about some really crazy things in our universe, I sent it to a friend ages ago and it really blew him away, but of course, I can't find it - not for lack of trying though. :p

NOTE: It's difficult to search for Christian creation views without happening upon Creationism, which deals with species origins, not universal origins, so it's quite hard to find, but many of those links have links to other sites. Let me know if you want more. :)

Cheers!

Who created God in the beginning?

No one. Because God is outside of time and space and is not made of matter, He does not need a beginning. He simply has always been.

Why did God create the universe and make it so cosmically large and uninhabitable?

To testify to His glory.

And for what purpose were humans actually put on this Earth in the beginning?

To glorify Him and to felloship with Him.

This is what humans might do, but God isn't human. God is God in part because He is perfectly self-sufficient: He needs nothing, which is to say He never gets bored.

Could a universe had possibly been developed before ours, and destroyed by some force, and therefore God had to create another, better one?

Again, God isn't human and in some kind of refining process with His creative powers like an artist developing his painting or sketching skills. God is perfect and He makes no mistakes.

If God is eternal (which is an unquestionable amount of time) would he/she have created the universe for a bit of fun? to relieve boredom? as some sort of sick little game because he/she has been bound by nothingness for...only God knows how long?

To be God means, in part, that God needs nothing. Not fun, not the relief of boredom, nor the diversion of some "sick little game." Moreover, as some have already pointed out, God exists outside of time in what has been called the "ever present Now." He sees all of time at the same time because He is not caught within the flow of time. He doesn't sit around watching a clock , listening to the endless tick of seconds passing. This is a human experience, not a divine one.

Please don't see this as a threat, I am merely curious as to how it began.

As a Christian, I believe it began as the Bible says it did.

Peace to you.
