  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've actually heard many in RCIA (because I still pop in when needed for whatever) that priests have actually told them there was no reason to convert. I have found this shocking on certain levels but at the same time, what saves us? Our faith in Jesus and following Him to the best of our ability or our theology? How we practice our worship? The tradition we follow? Isn't Jesus our foundation? God knows our hearts. As I understand it, we hold the FULLNESS of faith but we do not hold it hostage. I feel that we should lead those to the fullness of faith but that does not mean those that do not hold it believing in the foundation of Jesus Christ are lost because they are not under the right Christian roof. There are areas we should leave between the Christian and God alone imo. God will lead His Children as He sees fit and the children will go where their understanding takes them under the banner/grace of the foundation they believe in which is Jesus Christ.

After Mass we had a pot luck today. I got to sit with the priest and the group of active members. They mentioned a non-denom church that has some kind of ecumenical prayer chapel.

They all liked this idea. I took a leap and asked the priest, wasn't it formerly frowned upon to have joint things like the prayer. He said it used to be, but not any more.

Then I asked about salvation for protestants, and nobody seemed to think it was a problem.

I came away from this talk wondering why anyone needs to be Catholic?
I started becoming interested in RCC about 10 years ago or a little more due my and my husband's involvement in the Pro-life community. We were the only Protestants in our small local group, although now the local Baptist pastor and some of his congregants have come to our local NRLC state's affiliate's meetings. The Catholic Church DOES have the strongest pro life witness. I read the CCC and really liked what I saw. My brother and his wife were also very interested. as well. As a matter of fact they started going to RICA but dropped out due to a lot of the issues that were in the article that the other poster(Jason?) posted. They decided to stay in their EvangelicaL church as well. I think my sister in law thought there was too much legalism. They did not have the marriage issue hurdle that my husband and I have so they could have gone right into the Church but they were concerned about the liberalism and wanted their kids to continue in the conservative Christian K-12 school they attended(now in college). We also sent our kids to a very conservative Lutheran (WELS) school through elementary.
I consider Protestantism to be incomplete though.
I must say I still am impressed with the fact the at least the OFFICIAL teachings or the RCC have not changed even though I myself have seen the liberal scholarship that the person mentions in the article.
I remember watching the Journey Home on EWTN and Marcus Grodi saying one priest told him there was no reason to convert, or thought he was strange for wanting to convert.

Yes - why is the RCC so over-run with liberalism? I asked our priest what the congregation would look like if nobody was using contraception? He nodded and said pretty much nothing, and I have not heard it mentioned the 5 plus years I have been attending Mass.

I don't even remember it in our marriage prep class.

I am very tired of trying to get Catholic leaders to teach Catholic stuff. If they are ordained at the highest level, they sure don't perform as well as much of the good laity that are holding things up.
